Responsibility, exemplary in investigation and solving cases

Seriously implementing the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, as well as the campaign "Building the style of a People's Police officer, brave, humane, serving the people", Lieutenant Colonel Duong Tu Thuong (Captain of the Team for Prevention and Combat of Property Crimes, Criminal Police Department, An Giang Provincial Police) always considers this as a guideline to strive to complete the task.

At the end of 2022, when everyone was busy preparing for the year-end summary, a farmer in Long Hung hamlet (O Long Vi commune, Chau Phu district) discovered a male corpse in the stage of decomposition when he came to take care of his family's fruit garden. The victim was identified as Mr. Vo Van L. (born in 1982, residing in Hong Ngu district, Dong Thap province) who worked as a "motorbike taxi" driver. Through the examination of the scene, the vehicle and gold jewelry worn by the victim were missing. It was determined that it could be a murder and robbery case, however, there were no traces at the scene.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Phong, Head of the Criminal Police Department, when a serious crime occurs in the area, the Provincial Police Department always closely directs to inspect and evaluate the nature and extent of the case to direct relevant professional units and select participants, this is an extremely important step in investigating the case. The selected people must be experienced, enthusiastic and passionate investigators, regardless of time to track down criminals.

As the person directly handling the case, Lieutenant Colonel Thuong launched the investigation starting from the victim's previous movements and relationships to find important clues and track down the perpetrator. With determination and extensive experience in the field of criminal investigation, Lieutenant Colonel Thuong and his teammates carried out the investigation in the right direction, flexibly and synchronously applying professional measures. The perpetrator, Nguyen Hung Cuong (born in 1982), was quickly arrested and admitted to his crime.

Lieutenant Colonel Thuong shared: “The area where the body was found was an empty field, with no houses or cameras; there was no evidence or clues about this case. My teammates and I participated in the investigation at the scene, thinking of ways to collect evidence to find the perpetrator and reassure public opinion. When we found the perpetrator, at first the subject gave a evasive statement, saying that he did not participate in killing the victim, he only drove the victim there. For the first time, we applied the double interrogation tactic; we struggled and exploited the subject all night. Finally, we found evidence and forced the subject to confess”...

This is just one of many particularly serious cases that Lieutenant Colonel Duong Tu Thuong was assigned to handle. With more than 27 years of working in criminal investigation, together with his teammates, he directly participated in investigating and solving many serious and especially serious cases that caused a stir in public opinion. His teammates gave him the nickname "the one with a knack for solving unclear cases". Lieutenant Colonel Phong emphasized that Criminal Police must have both "heart" and "virtue". "Heart" is passion for the profession, "virtue" is to handle work in accordance with the provisions of the law. In any circumstance, Comrade Thuong always takes "6 things Uncle Ho taught" the People's Police as a guideline for all actions, voluntarily studying and cultivating, practicing according to Uncle Ho's ideology, morality, and style, maintaining the qualities of a police officer. It can be said that with his love for the industry, his profession and his spirit of serving the people, Lieutenant Colonel Duong Tu Thuong has applied the scientific knowledge he has been trained in to practical work, thereby identifying and connecting the "pieces" of evidence and proposing appropriate investigation directions, solving difficult problems for "unclear" cases.

Lieutenant Colonel Duong Tu Thuong also shared that in solving "obscure" cases, in reality, no two cases are the same; in terms of form, method, and motive of the crime. The important thing is to always know how to grasp and turn even the smallest, seemingly harmless clues into opportunities to solve the case. In investigating and discovering cases... the most important thing is to identify the motive and purpose of the criminal, from which the investigator can give the direction of the investigation...

From 2016 to present, Lieutenant Colonel Duong Tu Thuong has received many certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; the Minister of Public Security and many extraordinary certificates of merit from the Director of the Provincial Police Department and other titles... At the same time, he is a typical example in 10 years of implementing Directive 05-CT/TW of the Politburo on "Promoting studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle".
