Eo Gio is the last point before going down to the plain of the old Son - Cam - Ha base area, so there was a time when this place became the "divine eye" for revolutionary cadres and soldiers to observe a large area under the control of the enemy.
At the foot of Eo Gio Pass, no matter how many years have passed, there is still a beautiful story of humanity in the hearts of the people of Long Son (Phu Ninh Commune) of the past. Back then, to give up land for the Phu Ninh irrigation project, hundreds of households in Long Son village accepted to leave and settle everywhere, a group of them came and stayed at the foot of Eo Gio Pass until now.
Walking on the concrete roads crisscrossing the villages at the foot of Eo Gio Pass, a completely new picture of the countryside is revealed after only a few years of starting to build a new countryside. The changes are evident in every house, every road, every alley, the countryside is increasingly flourishing.
Even more proud, when my hand touched the row of tea trees at the entrance to the memorial house of the patriot Phan Chau Trinh in Tay Loc village. Sitting under the shade of a hundred-year-old fig tree in front of the memorial house, looking out at the field in front, I suddenly realized that the patriot's father had created a rather favorable "minh duong position" for his house. The back leaned against the Duong Bang mountain range, the face facing the Bo field about thirty hectares wide, where there was a lotus pond that seemed to still reflect the shadow of Mr. Phan on the afternoons when he sat fishing...
It is not by chance that musician Nguyen Hoang Bich, famous for many songs about his homeland Quang, wrote "My hometown Phu Ninh is as beautiful as a painting/ The green of the forest, the green of the mountains/ The lake is as green as your green eyes/ The canal is as green as the rice fields..." .
The road runs from Eo Gio - Tay Ho, down to Cam Khe market and then around to Thanh Duc, Chien Dan commune... looking like a soft, smooth green silk strip, winding through the vast fields.
The fields where I used to herd buffalo and cut grass with my siblings and uncles when I went back to my hometown with my mother have now been thoroughly renovated. Rice is on one side, watermelon is on the other side, sold everywhere.
I still remember the Dai Dong brick kiln located next to La Ga stream, where every afternoon the smoke wafted out, imprinting in my memory the figure of my uncle bending over to make bricks. Now that place is full of tiled-roof houses, with a bustling population creating a bustling Cam Khe wholesale and service market, which together with Phu Ninh market create two bright highlights of the entire land at the foot of Eo Gio.
I have spent countless afternoons going back and forth between the city and the countryside, but every time I travel on the asphalt road extending from Ban Thach, Tam Ky to Eo Gio, my heart always feels boundless pride with the peaceful flavors of my homeland.
The smell of straw in the harvest season, the faint smell of clay after the rain, the strong smell of ripe jackfruit and guava from someone's garden. How happy it is to be able to let one's heart be filled with such peaceful love amidst the dust of industrial life.
Musician Huynh Duc Long, a literary friend of mine, revealed that to write the song “Returning to Phu Ninh”, he had to make many trips back and forth from Ky Ly to Chien Dan, through Tay Loc, then quietly stand on top of Eo Gio pass, admiring the beautiful, endless green picture spreading out in his sight. From here, he passionately sang: “I returned to Phu Ninh on a sunny afternoon/ The green garden with fruit clinging to the day/ I love Phu Thinh so much, the sky is so blue/ White clouds rise, thousands of white clouds float…” .
I know that the vast land at the foot of Eo Gio still has many unfinished things on the way to completion, but I deeply appreciate the harmony that many sympathetic souls like Huynh Duc Long have lovingly given to the homeland from affectionate perspectives. The road to Eo Gio, the beautiful green road will become an interesting experience for those souls who passionately love their homeland.
