"One Battle After Another" is the latest Hollywood movie that just premiered in Vietnam on September 26.
The film follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo Dicaprio) - a revolutionary activist of the French 75 revolutionary group who participated in many scandalous anti-government incidents, but withdrew into seclusion after having children.
16 years have passed, and it seemed like they had settled down, but Bob and his father suddenly had to flee again when they were hunted by the corrupt Colonel Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn). Through this, the film reveals the shocking past of his troubled black wife Perfidia B. Hills (Teyana Taylor) as well as the chaotic American context.

While the people of this country are heavily divided over ethnic issues, violence, border control, disagreement with the government... Variety news site commented that the film "scratched the right itch" when "the country is getting closer and closer to totalitarianism."
“So many of us are caught between the desire to rebel and despair, 'One Battle After Another' strikes a chord,” the site states.
This could also be the reason why a part of Vietnamese audiences feel the movie is unfamiliar, not quite matching the praise and enjoyment when watching.
However, “Battle After Battle” is still a worthy cinematic experience. On the Rotten Tomatoes platform, the film received a 96% “fresh tomato” score from 279 professional reviews, 84% from more than 1,000 reviews from the general audience. The Metacritics platform scored 95/100 points and labeled it “Must-see”. The IMDb score was 8.5/10 from 32,000 reviews...

Besides the heavy political struggle, the film also brings funny interactions between a miserable, shabby Leonardo DiCaprio and a calm, carefree but always calculating martial arts teacher played by Benicio Del Toro.
Equally notable is "gen Z" actress Chase Infinity with the appearance of a pretty "warrior princess", young in age but with the courage of an adult.
Praising the entire cast, the famous entertainment news site Screenrant gave the most praise to the acting of Sean Penn and female rapper Teyana Taylor. One is a villain, the other is a former fugitive leader, both bring complex psychological depth, both blameworthy and pitiful against a chaotic social background.
Immediately after its premiere, a series of prestigious newspapers and news sites affirmed that “Battle After Battle” was the leading candidate for many important Oscar categories, such as best film, best actor and actress, best director and best screenwriter...

Not as famous as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino or the Coen Brothers... but Paul Thomas Anderson - director and screenwriter - is still one of the top filmmakers in Hollywood today.
He has received many international awards, big and small, but has not had any luck with the Oscar statue, having received 11 nominations without winning once. However, with his latest film, The Guardian newspaper asked a question that sounded like an affirmation: "Can Paul Thomas Anderson finally touch the Oscar statue with 'One Battle After Another ' ?"
Currently, "Battle After Battle" is being shown in theaters in Vietnam./.
