Around mid-October is when the chi pâu flowers are at their most beautiful in Ta Chi Nhu ( Yen Bai ).
Located in Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province, Ta Chi Nhu is a famous cloud-watching spot ideal for travelers who love backpacking and trekking. Ranking 7th among the highest mountains in Vietnam, Ta Chi Nhu boasts a pristine, majestic landscape and an incredibly diverse forest ecosystem. Photo: Provided by the subject. Especially around October, this mountain attracts countless tourists thanks to the dreamy purple hues of Chi Pâu flowers – a wild flower that is both delicate and resilient amidst the vast, undulating mountain slopes. It was for this reason that Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong (office worker, Hanoi ) decided to take a trip to Ta Chi Nhu: “Last year I had a plan, but only managed to do it this year. As soon as I heard that the Chi Pau flowers had started blooming, I started planning to invite friends to go see them on our own.” (Photo: Provided by the subject) According to Ms. Huong, Ta Chi Nhu offered her a gentle experience, like the autumn weather in Hanoi, not as easy to get to as Lung Cung, nor as strenuous as Ta Xua. This was also what impressed the female tourist the most throughout the trip: “I was truly overwhelmed when I saw a miniature grassland surrounded by mountains. The huts were well-equipped, arguably the best I’ve ever visited: from the toilet, electricity, water, sleeping arrangements…”. Because the North had just experienced a strong storm, many areas were still experiencing landslides. As the tour leader, she always had to prioritize everyone's safety. Ultimately, the weather was favorable, sunny and beautiful, and no unfortunate incidents occurred throughout the trip. (Photo: Provided by the interviewee) Regarding trekking advice for beginners, she stated that Ta Chi Nhu doesn't have much forest, mostly barren hills, so visitors need to bring hats, sunscreen, raincoats, flashlights, etc. In addition, visitors should also prepare some snacks for quick energy replenishment such as biscuits, chocolate, and fruit to prevent sunstroke, exhaustion, or hypoglycemia. (Photo: Provided by the interviewee) In particular, visitors should prepare a pair of shoes 1-2 sizes larger to avoid foot pain when descending the mountain, as Ta Chi Nhu has many steep slopes. In addition, if planning to conquer this peak, visitors should also prepare thoroughly in terms of health, practicing running and walking 1-2 weeks beforehand. This year, I also plan to take several trips such as admiring the maple leaves on Ta Lien Son, climbing Nam Kang Ho Tao mountain, returning to chase clouds in Lao Than, and watching the sunrise on Lung Cung peak…,” Ms. Huong said.
