Implementing the Law on Trade Unions and the Law on Social Insurance into practice.

Kinhtedothi - On the morning of February 5th, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) held a national conference to disseminate and implement the Trade Union Law and the Social Insurance Law of 2024.

The conference was held in person at the headquarters of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and online to nearly 100 locations nationwide.

Attending the conference were Central Committee member and President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, along with other leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

The conference was organized to raise awareness among trade union officials about the content of the 2024 Trade Union Law and the 2024 Social Insurance Law; to demonstrate the role and responsibility of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in implementing the Laws, ensuring that the provisions of the Laws are implemented promptly and effectively in practice. At the same time, it aimed to recognize and reward collectives and individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the 2024 Trade Union Law.

In his opening remarks at the Conference, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Nguyen Dinh Khang, stated that the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union identified participation in policy and lawmaking as a top priority in fulfilling the function of representing, caring for, and protecting the rights of union members and workers; it is the responsibility of the entire system and a regular task to best care for and protect the rights of workers.

2024 marked several important events for the Vietnam Trade Union in its participation in the development and improvement of legislation. This included focusing on and participating in the drafting of important laws in the fields of labor and social security, such as: the Social Insurance Law, the Law amending and supplementing certain articles of the Health Insurance Law, the Employment Law, and especially the amended Trade Union Law – a law of high political and legal significance – proposed and drafted by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

At its 8th session in November 2024, the 15th National Assembly passed the amended Trade Union Law with a high percentage of votes in favor, creating a new legal basis for trade unions to effectively perform their functions and tasks, enhance their status, and affirm their role and effectiveness in the socialist-oriented market economy and increasingly deep international integration.

Previously, at its 7th session, the 15th National Assembly passed the amended Social Insurance Law, an important law with a profound and direct impact on the rights and obligations of tens of millions of workers.

"During the process of drafting and participating in the drafting of the aforementioned laws, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has always received attention and cooperation from competent authorities in listening to and recording the aspirations and suggestions of workers; promptly reflecting the realities of workers' lives and trade union activities in the process of building and perfecting the law. Many suggestions and proposals from workers and trade union organizations have been accepted, recorded, and reflected in the draft laws," the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor emphasized.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the cooperation of relevant agencies, members of the Drafting Committee, and the Editorial Team of the draft Law on Trade Unions (amended); and the responsible participation of all levels of trade unions and union members and workers nationwide in the process of building and perfecting these important laws, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor affirmed that these contributions played a very important role in the draft Law being passed with a high number of votes in favor.

According to the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the National Assembly's approval of two important laws that directly affect the rights and interests of union members, workers, and trade union organizations has created an important legal foundation for trade union officials and organizations at all levels to better perform their functions and duties in representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers; and to continue innovating the organization and activities of trade unions to meet the requirements of the new situation. In particular, mastering the provisions of the Trade Union Law and the Social Insurance Law, and taking practical and concrete actions to put the legal provisions into practice, is the responsibility of every trade union official and trade union organization at all levels.
