On the morning of April 9th, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, organized a meeting with representatives of veterans, former youth volunteers, and militia members who participated in the resistance war against the US to save the country.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam recalled the victory of Spring 1975, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which liberated the South and unified the country. From then on, the nation was reunited, and the country entered an era of independence, unity, peace , and development.
"This is a victory for millions of ordinary but extraordinary people, who were willing to dedicate their youth, even their lives, to a peaceful and unified country, and to national independence," the General Secretary said.
He affirmed that, whether in times of war or peace, veterans, former youth volunteers, and militia members have always been the core force and solid support for the Party, government, and people. The Party and State always prioritize the best implementation of policies to show gratitude to those who have rendered meritorious service, considering this a top political task.
Specific policies include: subsidies, full health insurance, housing support, free medical examinations and treatment, vocational training, preferential loans, job creation, and care for the children of war heroes, "demonstrating the responsibility and morality of the Party and the State towards those who have sacrificed their lives and blood for the Fatherland."
The General Secretary stated that Resolution 42/2023 of the Central Committee sets a goal that by 2030, all people with meritorious services and their families will have a moderately good standard of living or higher, and will receive comprehensive care in terms of material and spiritual well-being. Preferential allowances will also continue to be adjusted to the highest level within the social policy system. Hundreds of thousands of houses of gratitude have been, are being, and will continue to be built throughout the country.
He emphasized that the deepest gratitude lies not only in policies but also in the awareness and actions of the current generation. Those living in peace and development have the responsibility to continue, preserve, and promote revolutionary traditions, passing on the flame of enthusiasm to the future. The younger generation needs to live, study, work, and contribute in a manner worthy of the sacrifices of previous generations, building a strong and sustainable nation, firmly protecting national sovereignty, and preserving peace.
"That is the most meaningful gift that the younger generation can give to those who dedicated their youth to the independence, freedom, and unity of the Fatherland," the General Secretary affirmed.

According to the Party leader, Vietnam is facing three key tasks. These are: firmly protecting the stability and peace of the Vietnamese Fatherland; developing the country to achieve the goals set for 2030 and 2045 – the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's independence – becoming a developed and high-income country; and improving all aspects of people's lives, so that everyone is well-fed, happy, and has access to education.
To accomplish these three tasks, the General Secretary emphasized that all Vietnamese people have a responsibility to protect the Fatherland, ensuring peace, stability, and unity. Everyone must work and produce, be creative, and generate more wealth and material resources so that the country can develop and stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading powers.
"The Party and the State must ensure a prosperous, happy, equal, and free life for all citizens. No one should be left hungry or poor. Everyone must have access to healthcare, education, and the fruits of the revolution of an independent and free country," the General Secretary said.
He hopes that veterans, former youth volunteers, and militia members, wherever they live or work, will contribute to building and developing the country with their love and responsibility, talent and creativity.
