General Secretary meets with veteran revolutionary cadres, meritorious people, and exemplary policy families

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on the afternoon of April 15, in Hanoi , General Secretary To Lam chaired a meeting with veteran revolutionary cadres, meritorious people, and typical policy families in the northern region.

Attending the meeting were comrades: Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary: Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia; Politburo members: General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, General Luong Tam Quang, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security ; members of the Party Central Committee; leaders of central ministries, departments and branches. Attending the meeting on behalf of Thai Binh province were comrade Nguyen Khac Than, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and representatives of outstanding people of the province.

50 years ago, April 30, 1975 became a brilliant milestone in the country's history, marking the glorious victory of the general offensive and uprising, completely liberating the South and unifying the country. The great victory in the spring of 1975 is a great symbol of the spirit, steadfastness and indomitability of the Vietnamese people. Contributing to the glorious victory 50 years ago, there was a great role of cadres, soldiers and people across the country. The 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and unification of the country is an opportunity for the Party, State and people to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs, people with meritorious services to the revolution, and families of policy beneficiaries who contributed and sacrificed for peace, independence and unification of the country.

At the meeting, the delegates who were Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, those who directly participated in the resistance war, liberated the South, and reunified the country, shared their emotional memories and pride in the years of participating in the nation's long resistance war, the great contributions of the army and people of the whole country to create the great victory, the country blossomed with independence on April 30, 1975.

Expressing deep gratitude for the heroic sacrifices of the heroes and martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, the delegates also expressed their firm belief in the leadership of the Party and General Secretary To Lam in implementing the revolution to streamline the apparatus, bringing the country into a new era of development, thereby bringing a prosperous and happy life to the people.

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam summarized the great achievements of our nation over the past 95 years under the leadership of the Party, 80 years since the birth of the new Vietnamese state, 50 years since the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, and nearly 40 years of renovation. In particular, the journey of nearly a century under the leadership of the Party, from a poor, backward country, devastated by war for decades, besieged and isolated... but up to now, Vietnam has become a developing socialist country, with average income, deeply and widely integrated into world politics, the global economy, human civilization, taking on many important international responsibilities, promoting an active role in many important multilateral organizations and forums. Independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity have been maintained, national and ethnic interests have been guaranteed.

“As “historical witnesses”, you, my brothers and sisters, comrades - those who fought in the battlefields, fought to the death in the resistance wars and actively participated in the construction and reconstruction of the country after reunification - understand this better than us. For example, Vietnam's per capita income in 1954 was only approximately 100 USD/year, by 2024, the average income was 4,700 USD/year. We see that the achievements of the Vietnamese revolution are truly miraculous, something that even the most optimistic people can hardly imagine” - General Secretary To Lam shared.

However, according to the General Secretary, we all still want our country to be stronger, our people to be richer, and the material and spiritual life of the people to be continuously improved, so that Vietnam can stride forward on the path of prosperous development in the future. In that spirit, General Secretary To Lam informed about the main features of the current situation of the country as well as the policies and strategic orientations that the Party has outlined in the era of building a strong socialist Vietnam, on par with the world powers. According to the General Secretary, the Central Committee identified three key tasks that need to be focused on from now until 2030: Maintaining and preserving a peaceful, secure and orderly environment for national development; developing the economy and society rapidly and sustainably; improving the lives of the people, especially the working people, satisfying the increasingly higher needs for the material and spiritual life of the people, all for the people.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam spent a lot of time providing specific information about the results of the recent 11th Central Conference, along with the results and policies on the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity; foreign affairs and international integration; and at the same time, clarifying 5 issues that will guide the country's development in the future. The General Secretary emphasized: "History has shown that the future belongs to those nations that know how to cherish great aspirations and join hands to act for the common good. Under the leadership of the Party, our people have united, joined hands, and achieved many miracles in the cause of national liberation, national reunification, and building and defending the socialist Fatherland; we will definitely inherit and promote the traditions of our ancestors, and continue to strive to achieve new miracles in the future."

Once again affirming the common achievements of the country, the veteran revolutionaries, generals, officers, heroes of the armed forces, heroic Vietnamese mothers, exemplary families of policy beneficiaries, especially the great and great sacrifices of soldiers and people of all walks of life have made the country resound with triumph, survive and develop.
