On December 15th, Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan, Principal of Quang Nam Medical College, stated that earlier that morning, the school's leadership held a meeting with the employees who had submitted notices of collective work stoppage.
According to Mr. Tuan, at the end of the meeting, both sides agreed that the staff and lecturers would continue working until December 31st.
According to Mr. Tuan, at the end of the meeting, both sides agreed that the staff and lecturers would continue working until December 31st.
Regarding the outstanding salary debt of over 5.7 billion VND for 114 staff and lecturers, Mr. Tuan stated that the reason was due to the unit's unreasonable initial budget estimate, as the Provincial People's Committee assigned an average student enrollment target.
"Specifically, the school's budget for the whole year is 8.5 billion VND, with revenue from nearly 500 students totaling 3 billion VND. After deducting 3.8 billion VND from the budget, the remaining amount is insufficient to cover salary expenses."
"On December 12th, the school worked with the Provincial People's Committee and other levels to propose a solution to temporarily suspend the deduction of the school's annual budget for 2023 and the period 2023-2025," Mr. Tuan said.
As reported by VTC News, yesterday (December 14), 17 staff and lecturers working in the Nursing Department and the Primary Healthcare Department of Quang Nam Medical College announced they would cease work starting December 18.
The reason for the collective work stoppage is that the school has failed to pay their salaries and allowances for six months (from July 2023 to the present). The Nursing Department and the Primary Healthcare Department have met and agreed to stop working until the school resolves the issue of salaries and allowances.
It is understood that, specifically in the Nursing Department, the suspension of teaching activities will affect 6 classes: D17A, D17B, D18A, D18B, Y26, and D6S. The affected courses are Endocrine Movement, Psychology - Communication Skills, on-campus practice, and internship at Quang Nam General Hospital.
114 staff and lecturers at Quang Nam Medical College are currently owed salaries.
Not only the faculty and lecturers of the Nursing and Primary Healthcare departments, but Quang Nam Medical College currently owes six months' salary to 114 employees, totaling over 5.7 billion VND. In addition to salary arrears, the college has also been late in paying social insurance contributions for several months.
Regarding the operations of Quang Nam Medical College, the Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee recently requested the college to report and explain the responsibilities of the collective and individuals involved in directing its operations and allowing the prolonged shortcomings that have caused public outrage.
