Teaching the craft of handmade pottery of the M'nong people

On the morning of October 31st, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the closing ceremony for the training and practice course on traditional M'nong pottery making in Yang Tao commune (Lak district).

Having participated in the class from October 17th until now, 20 students from 6 villages in Yang Tao commune have basically grasped the content taught by the artisans and have begun practicing.

The organizing committee awarded certificates of merit to outstanding students.

To date, most trainees have successfully created high-quality and aesthetically pleasing ceramic products such as elephants, buffaloes, bowls, cups, vases, and jars; these can be sold on the market, serving consumer needs and satisfying the tastes of tourists .

Some trainees also explored and created many products with novel designs, which were highly appreciated by artisans and tourists.

These are products made by the students.

Previously, the organizing committee had donated materials and tools for pottery making to the artisans and trainees: wooden mortar and pestle sets, baskets for scooping clay; bamboo rings; pebbles; smoothing cloth, etc., to support their learning process and long-term use in the local area.

At the closing ceremony, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded certificates to 20 trainees who had completed the training course; and presented commendations to 5 trainees with outstanding achievements.

Artisans and apprentices introduce the pottery-making process and pottery products to tourists.

Reportedly, the training course is part of the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" (Project 6) under the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The training course aims to contribute to the restoration, preservation, and promotion of the fine traditional values ​​of the handcrafted pottery making profession; to open up opportunities for the pottery industry here to develop in conjunction with tourism; and at the same time to propagate and educate the younger generation about pride and awareness of preserving the traditional culture of the nation.
