The border in April is scorching hot. Patrolling through the towering mountains and hills is even more arduous. Yet, the young soldiers of the Muong Muon Border Guard Post ( under the Dien Bien Provincial Border Guard Command) remain steadfast, holding their weapons firmly and marching forward.
Muong Muon Border Guard Post is the only border guard post in Muong Cha district (Dien Bien province), and one of the key posts managing three communes: Muong Muon, Na Sang, and Ma Thi Ho.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Duc Tuan, commander of the Muong Muon Border Guard Station, said that at this time, in addition to the task of managing and protecting the territorial integrity and maintaining security and order in the border area, the unit is also coordinating with other forces to carry out tasks leading up to the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).
This includes developing a plan to coordinate with local police and militia forces to strengthen their understanding of key areas, especially those with religious activities not recognized by the State, areas with many individuals under special management, and areas monitoring drug-related crimes and illegal weapons possession.
Specifically, strengthen border protection efforts, organize patrols along the border and border markers, intensify patrols and control on main roads, and strictly manage the number of people and vehicles entering the border area.
Inspect military equipment and supplies before patrolling.
The Muong Muon Police Station is responsible for an area with complex security and order issues, including drug-related problems.
Lieutenant Lo Van Dong (administrative staff team leader) is in charge of the patrol and control team.
During a border patrol mission, Lieutenant Lo Van Dong (administrative staff team leader) shared that due to the hot weather, some soldiers on patrol suffered from heatstroke. The unit assigned medical officers to accompany them to provide timely treatment and ensure safety.
"The task of protecting the border is the specialized responsibility of the border guard forces. We are determined to perform our assigned duties well," Lieutenant Dong shared.
Born and raised in Muong Cha, Sung A Cau (20 years old, from Muong Cha district), a Hmong man, said that participating in border patrol duties was not difficult at all, because his feet were already familiar with every path and every high mountain in this land.
"Being assigned this task during the special occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, I am very proud and will try my best to serve the Fatherland and fulfill my duties as a young person," said Cau.
Muong Muon Border Guard Post is the only border guard post in Muong Cha district, Dien Bien province, managing three border communes: Muong Muon, Na Sang, and Ma Thi Ho, with nearly 22km of national border adjacent to Laos, 7 border markers, and many small border crossings along the Vietnam-Laos border.
