U.17 Thailand won a thrilling victory over Laos in the opening match of the Asian tournament.

On the first day of the 2023 AFC U-17 Championship, host U-17 Thailand faced U-17 Laos at Pathum Thani Stadium. The team from the land of the golden pagodas struggled to win all 3 points in the opening match against an opponent that was considered inferior.

Accordingly, U.17 Thailand took the lead 1-0 quite early in the 12th minute thanks to Dutsadee. However, U.17 Laos played with determination and leveled the score in the 26th minute with Peeter's goal.

Previously, also in the match in Group A of the 2023 AFC U-17 Championship, U.17 Yemen easily won against U.17 Malaysia with a score of 4-0. Thus, U.17 Yemen took the top spot in Group A with 3 points and a goal difference of +4. Meanwhile, host U.17 Thailand ranked second in the group, with 3 points but was inferior to U.17 Yemen in terms of goal difference (+1).
