After their opening match in the group stage of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam U22 team has the same 3 points as Malaysia U22 but is temporarily ranked second due to a lower goal difference. The direct confrontation between the two teams at 4 PM on December 11th will determine the final group winner.
If they draw with U22 Malaysia, Coach Kim Sang-sik's team will still advance to the semi-finals as the best-performing second-placed team in the group stage. This result would allow U22 Vietnam to potentially face the host nation, U22 Thailand, in the semi-finals.
Therefore, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are determined to win all matches against U22 Malaysia to take the top spot in Group B and open the door to the final of this tournament. Coach Kim emphasized: "All 23 players are in good physical condition and high spirits to aim for the best possible result. I always remind the players that this is not just a group stage match, but like a knockout match. Victory is a mandatory goal for U22 Vietnam."
Commenting on their opponents, the South Korean strategist said: "Malaysia is physically strong and plays a powerful attacking game. However, we have prepared thoroughly both physically and tactically. Through professional meetings and the players' diligent training, we are confident that we will achieve our goals."
