On the afternoon of December 11th, the Vietnam U22 team started proactively, quickly imposing their game and putting great pressure on Malaysia. Hieu Minh scored the opening goal with a header in the 10th minute, and Minh Phuc extended the lead with a tap-in in the 22nd minute.
In the second half, Vietnam proactively dropped deep, focusing on defensive counter-attacks to maintain their advantage. Malaysia tried to make personnel changes but failed to create any breakthroughs. Coach Kim Sang-sik's adjustments helped the team control the game until the end, maintaining the 2-0 scoreline and advancing to the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33 as group B winners.
However, a problem arose when the SEA Games 33 organizing committee displayed an error, showing the Malaysian flag instead of the Vietnamese flag in the 68th minute when Vietnam was scheduled to make a substitution.

The BTC (Vietnam Football Federation) displayed the wrong flag again when the Vietnam U22 team made a substitution.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the issue of displaying the wrong national flag occurred repeatedly throughout the tournament and drew much criticism from Southeast Asian fans.
Putting this incident aside, the Vietnam U22 team has advanced to the semi-finals along with the Philippines – who have already secured their spot with 6 points after two matches in Group C. The remaining two spots in the knockout round will be determined and paired up tomorrow (December 12).
The remaining two group stage matches are the clash between host nation Thailand and Singapore tonight at 7 PM in Group A; and Indonesia and Myanmar (Group C) on December 12th at 6 PM.
