Ukrainian officials say security forces have blown up a Russian railway tunnel in Siberia, in the deepest attack yet on Russian territory.
Politico on December 1 quoted a senior Ukrainian official as saying that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) caused several explosions in the Severomuysky tunnel on the Baikal-Amur railway in Buryatia, Russia, about 6,000 km east of Ukraine.
"This is the only railway line connecting Russia and China. Currently, this line, which Russia uses to transport military supplies, is paralyzed," the Ukrainian official said.
Four explosive devices were detonated while a freight train was moving through the tunnel. Ukrainian officials added that the Russian Security Service was working at the scene of the explosion and that railway workers were also trying to repair the damage after the SBU explosion "but without success".

Later, an overpass on the Trans-Siberian Railway was also detonated as a train passed over it, according to the Russian news Telegram account Baza.
"When the train passed over this 35-meter high bridge, the mine attached to the bridge exploded," Ukrainian officials also confirmed the information.
The first explosion burned down four carriages and damaged two. The second explosion caused jet fuel being transported on the train to spill over an area of about 150 square meters. This is considered the deepest attack on Russian territory by Ukrainian security forces.
"Russia should get used to the fact that our people are everywhere, even in distant Buryatia," the Ukrainian official warned.
The SBU has not yet claimed responsibility. Russian media reported that authorities are investigating the explosions as a terrorist attack.
