Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on April 16th, the leaders of Tay Ho District People's Committee ( Hanoi ) stated that the agency has submitted a detailed report on the organization of the Tay Ho Half Marathon 2024 and Kids Run the Earth 2024.

This includes the case of an athlete who suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed just before the 100m finish line.

The male athlete who experienced the health problem is PBM (born in 1990, from Dong Son, Thanh Hoa ). On April 16th, the patient continued to receive emergency treatment at Bach Mai Hospital in a serious condition.

"Upon investigation, the patient had a history of hypertension for 4 years, and was regularly treated with Coversyl," the report from the Tay Ho District People's Committee stated.

At approximately 5:55 AM on April 14th, upon discovering that Mr. PBM had collapsed, the emergency team, consisting of Dr. Ngo Tien Thai (Bach Mai Hospital) along with two cardiologists, an anesthesiologist, and a nurse, examined and assessed the patient's condition. The results showed that the male athlete had suffered cardiac arrest.

Medical staff provided first aid including chest compressions, manual ventilation, oxygen administration, adrenaline injection, and establishing an IV line. At 6:25 AM, the patient was transferred to Hanoi Heart Hospital, facility 2, for treatment.

Here, the intensive care unit of the Heart Hospital provided intensive resuscitation and held a direct consultation with Bach Mai Hospital. Subsequently, the outpatient emergency team from Bach Mai Hospital arrived to provide direct support.

At 12 PM on the same day, the patient received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support from the emergency team at Bach Mai Hospital and was transferred to Bach Mai Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities advise people to plan their training and prepare thoroughly in terms of health before sporting events to ensure safety and avoid risks. At the same time, they should not follow trends by registering for a distance beyond their capabilities.

The Tay Ho Half Marathon 2024 and the accompanying Kids Run the Earth race were held on April 13th and 14th. The two races attracted over 13,000 participants.

The Tay Ho Half Marathon 2024 features three distances: 5km, 15km, and 21km.

During the event, 14 people required medical assistance, with 6 cases needing to be transferred to a hospital for monitoring. To date, 5 cases have stabilized.
