Yen Bai - In March, Lung Cung village, the hawthorn capital of Mu Cang Chai district, is in full bloom, turning the entire mountainous area white.

In early March, several villages in the northern mountainous region enter the season of hawthorn blossoms. According to the National Tourism Administration, Lung Cung village, located at the foot of Lung Cung peak (2,913 m), the highest peak in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, is considered the "hawthorn capital" of Mu Cang Chai district. Lung Cung has a concentration of ancient hawthorn trees among the more than 6,000 trees planted in Mu Cang Chai, and its fruit is renowned for its delicious aroma.

Having learned about the hawthorn blossom season in Lung Cung village through the stories of a local porter, Nguyen Trong Cung from Thai Binh , who currently works in tourism, came here on March 9th.
Mr. Cung traveled by motorbike for over two hours, covering a distance of about 30 km, from Tu Le commune, Van Chan district. The road is quite difficult, with many bumps; tourists can ride a motorbike alone if they are confident drivers or hire a local motorbike taxi to take them there.

By the time Mr. Cung arrived in the village, the ancient hawthorn trees scattered throughout the village and on the hillsides were at their most beautiful.
In addition to being grown for its fruit, hawthorn trees are also identified as multi-purpose protective forest trees in the Mu Cang Chai highlands, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

In Lung Cung, when the hawthorn blossoms bloom, you can clearly see five round, ivory-white petals. The pistil gradually changes from yellow to earthy brown before wilting. Each flowering season lasts about 20-30 days. This year, the flowering season in Lung Cung extended until almost the end of March.

Mr. Cung was impressed with Lung Cung because of its wild, majestic and peaceful mountain scenery.

Located below the famous Lung Cung peak, Lung Cung village lacks homestays and tourist services, and no tour companies bring visitors there. This allows Cung to capture the pristine, peaceful scenery during the hawthorn blossom season.

If you want to see the hawthorn blossoms here, Mr. Cung advises visitors to take advantage of the time to come to the village this weekend, as the flowers are about to wither. After the seasons of plum blossoms, peach blossoms, and white hawthorn blossoms, "the white hawthorn blossoms are like the last farewell of spring in Mu Cang Chai before the season changes," Mr. Cung said.
