Yen Bai - In March, Lung Cung village, the capital of hawthorn trees in Mu Cang Chai district, is in full bloom, turning the entire mountain range white.
In early March, some villages in the northern mountainous region enter the hawthorn flower season. According to the National Tourism Administration , Lung Cung village, located at the foot of Lung Cung peak (2,913 m), the highest peak in the Hoang Lien Son range, is considered the "hawthorn capital" of Mu Cang Chai district. Lung Cung has many old trees among the more than 6,000 trees planted in Mu Cang Chai and is famous for its delicious fruit.
Knowing about the hawthorn flower season in Lung Cung village through the story of a local porter, Mr. Nguyen Trong Cung, Thai Binh , currently working in tourism, came here on March 9.
Mr. Cung traveled by motorbike for more than 2 hours, covering a distance of about 30 km, from Tu Le commune, Van Chan district. The road is quite difficult to travel, with many bumpy places. Tourists can ride a motorbike alone if they have a good driving skill or hire a local motorbike taxi to take them there.
When Mr. Cung arrived at the village, the ancient hawthorn trees scattered throughout the village and on the hillsides were at their most beautiful.
In addition to being grown for its fruit, hawthorn trees are also identified as multi-purpose protective forest trees in the Mu Cang Chai highlands, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
When the hawthorn flowers in Lung Cung bloom, you will clearly see 5 round ivory white petals, the pistil gradually turns from yellow to brown until it fades. Each flowering season lasts about 20 - 30 days. This year, the flowering season in Lung Cung lasts until almost the end of March.
Mr. Cung was impressed with Lung Cung because of its wild, majestic and peaceful mountain scenery.
Located under the famous Lung Cung peak, Lung Cung village has no homestay or tourism services, and no travel agency to take visitors to the village. Thanks to that, Mr. Cung can record the wild and peaceful scenes during the hawthorn flower season.
If you want to see hawthorn flowers here, Mr. Cung advises visitors to come to the village this weekend, because the flowers are about to fade. After the thick season of plum, peach and plum blossoms, "the white hawthorn flowers are like the last greeting of spring in Mu Cang Chai before the change of seasons," said Mr. Cung.
