Back to the origin of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army

The program was organized by the People's Army Newspaper, in coordination with the Cao Bang Provincial Military Command, the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Nguyen Binh District People's Committee.

This is one of a series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024); 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024); 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024); 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Generals, People's Armed Forces Heroes, veterans, and delegates attended the program.

Speaking at the program, Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, emphasized that 80 years ago, on December 22, 1944, the Vietnam Propaganda and Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army - was established here according to the directive of leader Ho Chi Minh .

Carrying the oath of loyalty, the first 34 soldiers with cloth clothes, bare feet, primitive weapons but clever and creative under the command of military genius Vo Nguyen Giap, after 3 days of establishing the Team, made the victory of Phai Khat, the victory of Na Ngan, opening the tradition of "Determination to fight, determination to win" of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.

Over the past 80 years, generations of Uncle Ho's soldiers have succeeded each other in writing heroic pages of the nation's history.

On this happy day, we cannot help but remember with nostalgia the days when our fathers and brothers went out to fight the enemy in plain clothes and bare feet; our people shared their rice and clothes with the soldiers, together "a piece of rice dipped in salt, a heavy burden of hatred", together overcoming many difficulties so that our country and our villages could be as happy and prosperous as they are today.

The organizing committee gave gifts and expressed gratitude to generals, People's Armed Forces Heroes, and veterans.

With that glorious tradition, we believe that our army will forever remain strong, forever be loved and trusted by the people, and together with the people, firmly defend our beloved homeland.

The meeting and discussion program consists of three parts: "80 Years of Building a Heroic Army"; "Party Work and Political Work - The Soul and Lifeblood of the Vietnam People's Army"; and "Advancing Under the Military Banner".

During the program, the guests exchanged and shared stories, information, and perspectives on the 80-year journey of establishment, development, combat, growth, and strengthening of our army.

The guests also shared and affirmed the particularly important role of Party work and political work in the army; ensuring the absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects over the army; building a politically strong army is the most important factor, having decisive significance in creating the strength of our army.

Ethnic people of Nguyen Binh district attended the program.

In the third part of the panel discussion, themed "Advancing Under the Military Banner," the guest officers shared their feelings of pride in continuing to write the glorious history of the army.

With pride, honor, and responsibility, today's generations of officers and soldiers have been and continue to build our army into an increasingly modern force with comprehensive strength, high levels of combat readiness, and effectively play a core role in building a national defense system, a national defense posture linked with a people's security posture, and fulfilling noble international duties.

Sharing about the tradition of excellent scientific research and mastery of weapons and equipment among our army's officers and soldiers, Lieutenant General Pham Tuan, Hero of the People's Armed Forces and former Director General of the General Department of Defense Industry, said that in a battle in March 1947, a bazooka with 10 rounds, manufactured by the late Professor Tran Dai Nghia and his colleagues, destroyed two French tanks. This event surprised the entire French colonial military.

Today, in addition to purchasing modern equipment and weapons, our army has also become self-reliant and self-sufficient in researching, manufacturing, and equipping itself with modern weapons and equipment, making a significant contribution to increasing the overall strength of our army.

Playing a pivotal role in building a national defense system and a national defense posture integrated with a people's security posture, our army has also been participating in noble international missions, contributing to peacekeeping efforts in several "hot spots" around the world.

Captain Vu Nhat Huong, an officer of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, shared her memories and experiences during her mission in the Central African Republic in 2021-2022, leaving a lasting impression on the guests, delegates, and attendees of the program.

The organizing committee awarded funds to support housing construction for families of people with revolutionary contributions, poor households, and soldiers in difficult circumstances.

On this occasion, People's Army Newspaper and sponsors supported and gave gifts worth 1.5 billion VND.

This includes providing funding for the construction of 10 houses for families of revolutionary heroes, poor households, and military personnel in difficult circumstances; and giving gifts to 451 policy beneficiaries, poor households, and outstanding students in Tam Kim and Hoa Tham communes, Nguyen Binh district.
