(Dan Tri) - Exclusive information from KBS (Korea) confirmed that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has negotiated with coach Kim Sang Sik. The two sides may finalize a two-year contract.
The search for the head coach of the Vietnam national team is coming to an end. KBS quoted a person who is very knowledgeable about the Southeast Asian football market as saying: "Coach Kim Sang Sik has met with the VFF and is about to sign a contract to lead the Vietnam national team." According to a leading Korean newspaper, Coach Kim Sang Sik's contract with VFF will last for two years (until March 2026). This strategist has not found a new job since leaving Jeonbuk Motors Club last year. Therefore, VFF does not have to pay to terminate his contract. Recently, Coach Kim Sang Sik has been traveling in Germany. Here, he watched top Korean players such as Lee Jae Sung and Kim Min Jae. He just returned to Korea last week and started negotiating with the Vietnamese side. KBS newspaper affirmed: "Coach Kim Sang Sik's decision to work in Vietnam was greatly influenced by Coach Park Hang Seo, who once reached the top with the Vietnamese team. Coach Park Hang Seo had achieved great success during his time working in the S-shaped land. He created a Korean fever throughout Southeast Asia. However, since Coach Park Hang Seo left, Vietnamese football has performed miserably. They lost 7 consecutive matches in all competitions. This led to Coach Troussier's departure. VFF has been looking for a head coach for a while now and finally decided to choose coach Kim Sang Sik. According to a VFF official, coach Kim Sang Sik has the advantage of having won the Korean championship and reached the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League. Coach Kim Sang Sik is highly regarded for his success prospects and coaching experience as he was successful at the famous club Jeonbuk Motors. Coach Park Hang Seo's success in Vietnam has inspired many Korean coaches to want to work in Southeast Asia. Two typical examples are coaches Shin Tae Yong (Indonesia) and Kim Pan Gon (Malaysia)".
Mr. Kim Sang Sik was born in 1976 and is a former Korean national team player. When he was still playing, he played as a center back and defensive midfielder. Kim Sang Sik spent most of his playing time playing for two clubs, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. Kim Sang Sik played 59 times for the Korean national team in 12 years. He was a member of the Korean team that participated in the 2006 World Cup. After retiring in 2013, he took on the role of assistant coach at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. After 8 years as an assistant, Coach Kim Sang Sik started leading the top Korean football team since 2021. He helped the club win the 2021 Korean championship and the 2022 Korean national cup. He was voted the best coach of the Korean national championship in 2021. This was a miracle because it was his first year as head coach. However, by 2023, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors had declined when losing 6/10 of the first matches. That was the reason Coach Kim Sang Sik was fired. In general, Coach Kim Sang Sik's coaching career was only limited to two years working at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club. However, according to experts, Kim Sang Sik is a potential coach. He won an average of 1.94 points/match while leading Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
