At a meeting on April 25th, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Committee of Dong Nai province discussed and agreed on the investment and construction of three bridges connecting the two localities: the bridge replacing the Cat Lai ferry, the Dong Nai 2 bridge, and the Phu My 2 bridge.

Three component projects: bridges and roads to replace the Cat Lai ferry.

The Cat Lai Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with 8 lanes. Its starting point is on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, Thu Duc City (approximately 400m from the My Thuy intersection); its end point connects to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway in Nhon Trach district.

The Cat Lai bridge and road project, intended to replace the ferry, is expected to be divided into three independent component projects.

First is the project to renovate and expand Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, spanning 1.6km, with an estimated cost of 3,800 billion VND (including approximately 3,600 billion VND for land acquisition), implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and funded by the state budget.

The second component of the project involves constructing a 6.6km road connecting the Cat Lai Bridge to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, with an estimated investment of approximately 5,000 billion VND, including about 1,300 billion VND for land acquisition. This public investment component is implemented by the People's Committee of Dong Nai province.

The 4.8km Cat Lai Bridge construction project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) - BOT (build-operate-transfer) contract with a total capital of approximately 10,500 billion VND, of which the investor's capital is about 5,400 billion VND (51%), and the remainder is from the state budget.

The Dong Nai 2 Bridge project has a scale of 8 lanes with a preliminary total investment of approximately 18,584 billion VND, of which land acquisition accounts for about 11,004 billion VND. The bridge's starting point intersects with the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 at the Go Cong intersection in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, and its end point intersects with National Highway 51 in Dong Nai province.

The project is expected to be divided into three components. Component 1 involves a 5.4km road connecting the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 to the Dong Nai 2 Bridge. The project's budget is approximately 1,500 billion VND and will be implemented by Ho Chi Minh City.

Component project 2, which involves the construction of the Dong Nai 2 bridge (approximately 3,500 billion VND) and a 6km connecting road from the Dong Nai 2 bridge to National Highway 51 (approximately 1,400 billion VND), is being implemented by the People's Committee of Dong Nai province.

The Phu My 2 bridge project also has a scale of 8 lanes with a preliminary total investment of approximately 21,484 billion VND, of which land acquisition accounts for about 6,250 billion VND. The bridge's starting point intersects with the inter-port road in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province; the end point is at Nguyen Huu Tho road (North-South axis), Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh City.

Phu My 2 Bridge is a crucial transportation project connecting major traffic arteries and urban and industrial areas in Nhon Trach, District 7, and Nha Be, contributing to urban and industrial development in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, attracting investment, and boosting regional economic growth.

Notably, the Phu My 2 bridge, according to the plan, is located on the main route for fast traffic flow (with minimal disruption and intersections) from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport.

Key road connections between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai

According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province have eight main road connections. In addition to the three bridge and road connections mentioned above, the two localities also have connections such as National Highway 1 (Dong Nai Bridge with 8 lanes), and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (Long Thanh Bridge currently with 4 lanes, to be expanded to 8 lanes upon completion).

The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway (Phase 1 of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge has 4 lanes, with 8 lanes upon completion) and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 (Phase 1 of the Nhon Trach Bridge has 4 lanes, with 8 lanes upon completion) are both under construction and are expected to be fully completed next year. The Nhon Trach Bridge is nearing completion and is preparing for operation.

A very beautiful and highly anticipated route is the southern coastal road from Go Cong ( Tien Giang ) through Can Gio, Phuoc An port, connecting to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway (8 lanes).

Regarding railways, there are connecting projects including the existing North-South railway line; the North-South high-speed railway; and the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway line currently under construction. As for urban railways, Ho Chi Minh City's Metro Line 1 will be extended to Trang Bom, Dong Nai province.
