More than 100 engineers, information security experts and business representatives attended the first community event organized by Viettel Cyber Security (VCS) in the Philippines - VCS: CTRL Manila 2025. This is the first time a foreign cybersecurity company has conducted a large-scale program for professionals in this country.

Stories about APT, financial fraud using AI or security vulnerabilities, presented by experts from Vietnam and the Philippines, attracted special attention.
“In many respects, the Philippines is at a similar stage to Vietnam a few years ago. There will come a time when businesses here understand why security is essential and need to invest more,” said Thomas Luu, VCS’s regional director for the Philippines.
Affirming position in the Philippines
VCS: CTRL Manila 2025 is just one of Viettel Cyber Security's activities over the past time in the Philippines. The success of the event is gradually creating a foothold for Vietnam's leading security company on its way to the world .
After more than two years of presence, VCS has become one of the most active foreign cybersecurity units in the Philippines, serving many customers in fields such as banking, finance, insurance, hospitals and small and medium enterprises.

According to Mr. Thomas Luu, many large organizations in the Philippines have started to seriously invest in cybersecurity, but a segment of businesses still do not know where to start. This gap creates a gap that VCS can fill with its practical implementation experience in Vietnam.
One of the key factors that helped VCS quickly gain attention in the market of 117 million people is its continuous presence at major events in the security field, especially events with “real-life” elements. For two consecutive years, young VCS engineers have won the ROOTCON Hacking Conference, the largest hacking competition in the Philippines.

In parallel with customer support, VCS also continuously organizes workshops (exchanges), training sessions and attack simulations for businesses, helping them understand the nature of threats and how to build defense capabilities from the foundation, such as the From Chaos to Control event series, GovX.0.
Sharing with the country's media, Mr. Thomas Luu set the goal of making VCS, along with the Philippines, one of Asia's information security centers, while developing more products and empowering local staff to develop.
Vietnamese cybersecurity company's global move
The presence of Viettel Cyber Security in the Philippines in 2025 also marks a major transformation of the Vietnamese information security industry, when a domestic enterprise has gone global with internationally recognized capacity and team of experts.
The reason VCS is well received by the local community is largely due to its solid foundation of a team of experts with world-class capabilities for many years.
In the past three years, VCS engineers have been constantly appearing on the international cybersecurity map. This team was the champion of Pwn2Own, the world's most prestigious vulnerability exploitation competition in Toronto 2023 and Ireland 2024. VCS experts have also discovered nearly 500 zero-day vulnerabilities, appeared on the Black Hat USA and SECCON stages, and also possess many top certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, and CEH.
According to VCS representative, the company always focuses on the philosophy of sustainable development with people as the core of development. The unit intends to pursue this philosophy in the markets it enters.
Here, the company partners with Rizal Technological University, Makati University and the ROOTCON community, one of Asia's largest cybersecurity communities, to conduct trainings, workshops, attack simulations and awareness programs.
Building a local team also helps VCS overcome a major hurdle that many foreign suppliers face, as Filipino businesses tend to trust technical teams that understand the local culture, processes and infrastructure, while demonstrating VCS’s global vision by expanding with knowledge and human capacity, rather than relying solely on commercial presence.
With a strong technical foundation and a people-centric strategy, VCS sees the Philippines as a stepping stone to expand into the global market. “We want to prove that a Vietnamese cybersecurity company can provide world-class capabilities,” Mr. Thomas affirmed.
