VNPT and Vietnam Airlines cooperate strategically, connecting Internet on planes

The collaboration between these two entities is expected to help Vietnam Airlines achieve its goal of becoming the leading digital airline in the region sooner.

Vietnam Airlines Corporation (Vietnam Airlines) and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) have just held a ceremony to summarize and deploy a strategic cooperation program and officially launch the VNA Discovery app - an application that integrates functional subsystems to support information exchange, operations, communications and management of all administrative activities, human resources and processes of Vietnam Airlines.

At the ceremony, Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, stated that the effective cooperation between the two leading corporations and companies under the State Capital Management Committee will help Vietnam Airlines soon achieve its goal of becoming the leading digital airline in the region.

This provides a solid foundation for Vietnam Airlines and VNPT to continue exchanging ideas and proposing cooperation content for the next phase, 2024-2027.

After 5 years of actively coordinating to implement the previous strategic cooperation agreement, the two sides have worked together to overcome difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, VNA and VNPT have collaborated on numerous activities applying information technology to communication and business operations, achieving positive results and contributing to the sustainable development of both sides. These include the implementation of the SkyHR Human Resource Management project, the SkyOffice e-office solution, and electronic payments via VNPT Money.

VNPT has also actively advised Vietnam Airlines on digital transformation solutions such as eKYC, HRM, iOffice, SSO, Cloud… Notably, from the end of 2023 to the present, VNPT has collaborated with VNA to pilot the VNA Discovery Mobile App for Vietnam Airlines staff.

Mobile application, integrating business modules.

VNA Discovery is a mobile application that integrates business modules to support information exchange, operations, communication, and administrative and human resources activities of Vietnam Airlines. Its aim is to improve operational efficiency, management, and competitiveness, provide employees with additional methods for handling tasks on mobile devices, optimize operational performance, information exchange and processing, and enhance user experience.

VNA Discovery contributes to the integrated planning of applications within the VNA ecosystem into a single application, with key functions such as: SkyOffice management, allowing users to view daily meeting schedules, task processing status, and view and process documents directly on their mobile devices.

In particular, the application is integrated with Smart CA digital signature software, allowing employees to digitally sign documents anytime, anywhere. The Sky HR subsystem integrates several features related to human resource management, enabling employees to look up personal information; view, manage, and track personal income effectively; register and manage leave requests, creating flexibility in employee work schedules.

Employees can also use the electronic business cards on the app to send to partners and scan the QR code on the business card. The VNA Family function also helps employees stay updated on the latest VNA news on various topics, such as news, digital transformation guides, and feedback; and search and view flight schedules.

Internet connection on board

According to a representative of VNPT Group, VNA Discovery will continue to be upgraded and expanded, providing smart reports on operational activities, integrating artificial intelligence (AI), improving the management efficiency of leaders and bringing many practical utilities to Vietnam Airlines staff.

Also at the ceremony, VNPT and VNA signed a cooperation agreement to provide internet connectivity services on aircraft.

VNA is the first airline in Vietnam to embrace the digital technology trend in the global aviation industry, providing internet connectivity services on board its aircraft.

The collaboration between Vietnam Airlines – the only 4-star airline in Vietnam – and VNPT – the leading internet provider in Vietnam – to offer in-flight internet connectivity is expected to attract potential customers and enhance the passenger experience by providing internet access on all domestic and international flights.

Mr. To Dung Thai, Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT, expressed his sincere gratitude to Vietnam Airlines for trusting and using VNPT's products and services, and for choosing VNPT as a strategic partner.

Mr. Thai also expressed his hope that in the future, VNA and VNPT will continue to leverage their respective capabilities and strengths, jointly exploiting products, services, and promotional programs to enhance customer experience, bringing many benefits to each other's employees and customers, thereby elevating the cooperative relationship to a new level.

Specifically, the two sides will cooperate to deploy telecommunications and information technology services to improve the experience for passengers on VNA flights. The two sides will jointly research and agree on a plan to deploy a shared data warehouse, Data Lake House, a strategy to transition to the Cloud platform & Cloud applications, and improve digital infrastructure capacity in terms of information security and safety.
