According to The Guardian on December 13, King Charles of the United Kingdom said he may reduce his cancer treatment schedule in the new year, viewing it as a significant milestone in his battle with the disease. The King called this progress a "personal blessing".

King Charles's treatment will now move into a preventative phase, with the frequency of medical interventions significantly reduced. The medical team will continue to monitor him to determine the appropriate treatment schedule, ensuring a long-term and stable recovery for the king.

In a pre-recorded video broadcast on Channel 4 on the evening of December 12th, as part of the "Together Against Cancer" fundraising program, King Charles emphasized the crucial role of early detection.

According to him, timely diagnosis not only gives medical teams "invaluable time" to intervene effectively, but also gives patients "the precious gift of hope".

"I am pleased to share the good news that, thanks to early diagnosis, proper treatment, and strict adherence to medical instructions, my cancer treatment schedule will be shortened in the new year," the king said.

He also considered this a clear testament to the progress of modern medicine in cancer treatment in recent years.

King Charles hopes his story will inspire the public: "I hope to inspire 50% of us – those who may be diagnosed with this disease at some point in our lives."

"I understand very well the difference that early diagnosis makes, allowing me to maintain a full and active life even while undergoing treatment," he said.

In addition, the king's continued fulfillment of national duties and public engagements contributed to maintaining a positive spirit – a factor considered crucial in the recovery process.

However, King Charles also expressed concern that at least 9 million people in the UK have not yet joined, or have not updated their information on, the cancer screening programs they are eligible for.

He urged people to proactively learn about and use the new nationwide cancer screening tool launched earlier this month to determine their eligibility for breast, bowel, and cervical cancer screening programs.

According to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson, King Charles expressed his deep gratitude to all those caring for cancer patients, especially his own medical team.

"The King sends his best wishes to all those affected by cancer and will always be thinking of and praying for them and their loved ones," the spokesperson added.

King Charles's cancer diagnosis was announced in February 2024, while he was undergoing treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the king does not have prostate cancer.
