Naval Region 4 presented national flags and provided free medical check-ups to hundreds of fishermen in Ninh Thuận.

During the program, Brigade 955 - Region 4 of the Navy organized free medical examinations and dispensed free medicine to more than 100 people; donated 500 national flags, life jackets, and 10 gifts to disadvantaged fishing families.

The program also awarded 10 scholarships to children of fishermen from disadvantaged backgrounds who have excelled in their studies. Simultaneously, it conducted awareness campaigns on Vietnam's Law of the Sea and Prime Minister 's Directive 45 on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Colonel Nguyen Xuan Dung, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the 4th Naval Region, said that the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to venture out to sea and stay at sea" was signed between the 4th Naval Region Command and Ninh Thuan province in 2019. This is the fourth time the program has been organized in Ninh Thuan. Previously, this program also provided lifebuoys and national flags to hundreds of other fishermen in Phan Rang - Thap Cham city and Thuan Nam district.

According to Colonel Dung, the program aims to further promote awareness, hoping that fishermen will feel secure in venturing out to sea to develop their economy and improve their lives.

"Every ship sailing out to sea is a landmark of sovereignty, every fisherman is a soldier safeguarding traditional fishing grounds and firmly protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands...", Colonel Nguyen Xuan Dung emphasized.

Excited to receive lifebuoys and the national flag, fisherman Vo Duc Chi from Thanh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district (Ninh Thuan province) said, "We fishermen are very happy and excited to receive the government's attention. This is a great source of encouragement for us to continue venturing out to sea, protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland."

"The national flag on the boat always boosts our morale and reminds each of us fishermen of our responsibility in protecting the sovereignty of our country's seas and islands…," fisherman Chi said emotionally.
