Maintain a firm grasp of the area and closely monitor the target.

Since quitting drugs, Ho Van Nia (born in 1997), from Tan Di 2 village, Ta Rut commune, has been diligently working. Every day, he and his wife go to the forest near their home to harvest acacia wood for hire. With a daily wage of 200,000 VND per person, if they work hard, they can earn a decent income each month to support their children's education. During the cassava season, they work tirelessly in the fields, never resting.

Mr. Ho Van Tu (born in 1969), Nĩa's father, couldn't hide his joy, boasting to everyone: "Thanks to the encouragement and advice from the officials, my son has given up drugs and is now working diligently."

Ho Van Nia's path to drug use was simple. "One time while hanging out, a friend in my group suggested I try it, and I found it strange, so I tried it again the next time," Nia recounted. This young man also readily shared the reason why he quit drugs: "After being persuaded by officials and my family, I realized that if I didn't quit drugs, I wouldn't be able to work, which would lead to not having money to support my children, and I would also be ostracized by my parents and relatives."

In Ta Rut commune, many young people who fall into drug addiction share the same reasons as Ho Van Nia. Therefore, the commune police always prioritize thoroughly understanding the area to detect early those illegally using drugs.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Hoa, Head of the Ta Rut Commune Police, there are currently 31 individuals illegally using drugs in the commune; and 1 individual under post-rehabilitation supervision. "Early detection of suspicious individuals and hotspots at risk of drug-related problems helps local authorities and police forces implement timely preventive and countermeasures," Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Hoa stated.

Having a firm grasp of the local area and closely monitoring suspects has also helped the Ta Rut Commune Police detect drug-related violations. Most recently, on November 4, 2025, the PC04 Department (Provincial Police), La Lay Commune Police, and La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station, in coordination with the Ta Rut Commune Police, discovered a case of illegal drug use, arrested four suspects, and seized seven ecstasy pills along with some related items.

Determined to reach the finish line

According to the plan, from now until 2030, the Ta Rut Commune Police will develop a roadmap to gradually increase the number of villages without drug addicts or illegal drug users; areas without drug-related offenders; and areas without locations where drugs are organized or used.

To achieve this goal, the Ta Rut Commune Police advised the Commune People's Committee to include drug prevention and control in the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term; advised the Commune Party Committee to issue Resolution No. 02/NQ-DU dated November 25, 2025, on strengthening the Party's leadership in building a drug-free commune, along with many other important programs and plans.

Ta Rut commune was formed by merging three communes: A Vao, Huc Nghi, and Ta Rut, from the former Dakrong district. Its large geographical area, low level of education, and limited access to information are among the reasons leading to the illegal use of drugs and drug-related crimes by the local population. Therefore, in addition to providing effective advice, the commune's police force focuses on strengthening propaganda and education on the harmful effects of drugs; combating drug-related crimes; controlling drug-related activities; and managing and rehabilitating drug users.

From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the Ta Rut Commune Police, in coordination with various departments, agencies, and organizations, have conducted 25 awareness campaigns on the harmful effects of drugs in villages and schools. Most of these campaigns were integrated into evening village meetings. For some residents who did not voluntarily participate, the commune police sent officers to their homes to persuade them. In addition, the commune police emphasized the role of respected individuals and families in managing those who illegally use drugs. A key focus in the Ta Rut Commune Police's drug prevention and control efforts is their emphasis on specific target groups.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Head of Ta Rut Commune Police, if the information were disseminated widely, the target audience would not be present, mainly children and the elderly. "To focus the dissemination of information on specific target groups, the commune police are intensifying their efforts to thoroughly identify and monitor these individuals using the motto 'going to every alley, knocking on every door, and checking every individual'," Mr. Thanh stated.

In the coming period, it is predicted that drug-related crimes will continue to be complex, requiring the police force to employ a comprehensive range of solutions to combat this type of crime. “We will continue to use methods to gather information on individuals who have the means and ability to buy, sell, possess, and organize the illegal use of drugs in the area. At the same time, we will coordinate with the provincial police's specialized teams to implement measures to combat and dismantle drug trafficking operations, aiming to minimize the supply of drugs in the area,” affirmed Le Quang Hoa, Chief of Ta Rut Commune Police.
