(Dan Tri) - Hundreds of officers and soldiers of Air Defense - Air Force units are actively practicing at Hoa Lac airport to prepare for the 2024 Air Defense - Air Force Search and Rescue Competition.

Nearly 600 officers and soldiers of the Air Defense - Air Force (PK-KQ) units are actively practicing at Hoa Lac Airport (Regiment 916, Division 371 of the PK-KQ) to prepare for the PK-KQ 2024 Air Defense - Air Force Search and Rescue competition. The competition has participants from 3 Air Force Divisions 370, 371 and 372 and 5 air search and rescue teams. Through the competition, it is also an opportunity to test the qualifications and capabilities of pilots and air search and rescue forces of helicopter air force units in organizing and performing air search and rescue missions.

Before each flight, the command board and pilots meet to discuss the flight plan.

Colonel Ta Mong Vu - Commander of Air Force Regiment 916 (Air Force Division 371) - received the aircraft from the technical team after completing the pre-flight inspection process. Colonel Ta Mong Vu was also the person in charge of the meteorological inspection flight in the training area.

The weather in Hoa Lac in recent days has been erratic, partly affecting the planned flight schedule. Through the meteorological reconnaissance flight, a plan will be developed to officially deploy the flight. The content of the sports festival includes 3 parts: Theory; Sports Festival Welcome Exercise; Practice of search and rescue - air rescue.

In the practical competition for air search and rescue, the units will practice flying to retrieve victims (each group or team will perform two events: lifting 300 kg and lifting 150 kg on a Mi-171 aircraft).

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hoang, Deputy Political Commissar of Air Force Regiment 916, in the search and rescue competition, the helicopter must approach the victim's location and hover at that location. The rescue team will use professional measures to approach the victim and rescue him.

Mi-171 helicopter hovered over the accident site, dropping ropes for rescuers to come down and rescue the victims.

To be effective, pilots and flight crews must have accumulated experience and regular training, understand the terrain and weather, and coordinate with rescue forces.

The welcome exercise for the sports festival included a simulated situation of two pilots wearing full flight equipment, life-saving equipment, parachuting with controlled escape and water landing, and using search and rescue equipment.

The pilot cut the parachute line to take on water and used search and rescue equipment to signal the location for the rescue helicopter.

The flight crew and search and rescue team successfully practiced flying to rescue the pilot in distress. The organization of the competition also aimed to evaluate the capacity, equipment, means, and organization of the implementation of search and rescue missions of the air force units in the Service when there is a situation.
