Before Xuan Son's return home, his wife and children cleaned and redecorated the house according to the Tet (Lunar New Year) theme. It has been 5 years since he moved to Vietnam to compete, but this is the first Lunar New Year that Xuan Son is celebrating as a Vietnamese citizen. A piece of good news for Xuan Son at the end of the lunar year is that he has for the first time entered the top 10 most influential figures on social media in December 2024 (according to BuzzMetrics) thanks to his brilliant performance at the AFF Cup 2024. He ranked 4th on this list. This number is proof of the "buzz" Xuan Son has generated and the level of affection his fans have for him.

Before being discharged from the hospital, Xuan Son shared positive images on his personal page. He appeared cheerful and continued his post-surgery rehabilitation exercises. Both Xuan Son and his wife, Marcele, were very excited to welcome the Year of the Snake, even though the striker would undoubtedly experience some inconvenience in moving around due to his injury. Celebrating Tet at home, Xuan Son also needed to pay attention to his diet to avoid affecting the surgical wound and to prevent excessive weight gain since he couldn't exercise as usual.

Returning to the top is possible.

According to Dr. Vu Tu Nam, Head of the Department of Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine at Vinmec Times City Hospital, Xuan Son's surgery required meticulous attention to detail and individualization in every step. Xuan Son's injury was not a simple fracture but a complex shaft fracture with a large 7cm detached fragment and the risk of the fractures splitting into smaller pieces. Bone fixation using intramedullary nailing techniques had to ensure that it did not interfere with the natural bone healing process and surrounding healthy structures.

The biggest challenge was meticulously calculating every step, from the type of pin, pin size, pin placement, to the percutaneous reduction technique without opening the fracture site. Thanks to collaboration between departments and simulation technology, the surgery was a success.

Dr. Ho Ngoc Minh, Director of Motion Lab and Arthroscopic Surgery & Sports Medicine Specialist at Vinmec Times City Hospital, said that when Xuan Son can return to training depends on many factors, including the time and process of recovery. At a minimum, Xuan Son can train at high intensity after 6 months, but on average it takes up to 9 months to return to the official football field.

Dr. Ho Ngoc Minh assessed that with this injury, Xuan Son has the potential to regain her form. However, the final outcome largely depends on close cooperation between the doctor, the athlete, and the coaching staff. Past achievements have proven this: many athletes such as Thai Thi Thao and Chuong Thi Kieu have returned to peak performance after serious injuries. This strengthens confidence in Xuan Son's successful recovery.

Xuan Son received support from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), his club, Vinmec Hospital, as well as great encouragement and concern from fans during his recovery.
