17 provinces and cities consider letting students stay home from school when necessary due to storms and rains

On September 19, the Minister of Education and Training issued a dispatch on proactively responding to the tropical depression strengthening into a storm.

Telegram sent to the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of 17 provinces and cities: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh , Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa.

To be proactive and flexible in responding to the storm, ensuring absolute safety for students, teachers and staff in the education sector, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of the above provinces and cities to closely monitor the storm's developments; be on duty 24/7; regularly update information from competent agencies, rescue forces and local authorities to have timely response plans.

Units should make plans to move assets, machinery, equipment, tables and chairs to safe places, ensuring no damage or breakdown; schools and educational institutions should not organize extracurricular activities in coastal areas and areas at risk of being affected by storms.

The Minister also asked the directors of the Department of Education and Training to consider allowing students to take time off from school when necessary, especially in areas vulnerable to storms and floods; and to ensure that information about school schedules and student safety is fully communicated to parents.

Immediately after the storm, organize cleaning of schools, repair damage to facilities, ensure safety and hygiene before welcoming students back to school.

The Ministry of Education and Training also requires the Departments of Education and Training to continuously update information, synthesize damages and develop a plan to report to the Provincial People's Committee for remediation, and at the same time report to the Ministry of Education and Training to synthesize and report to the Government .
