The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on the data of classrooms and school facilities that will be put into use in the new school year 2025 - 2026.
Accordingly, the total number of school buildings that have been repaired, upgraded, expanded and completely rebuilt that Ho Chi Minh City has put into use this school year is 77, with 1,571 new classrooms, an increase of 1,209 classrooms compared to the previous school year.
Area 1 (old Ho Chi Minh City) has 59 school buildings that have been repaired, upgraded, expanded and completely rebuilt, including 12 newly built buildings.
Area 2 (old Binh Duong ) has 14 school buildings, including 7 upgraded and expanded buildings, 2 newly built buildings and 5 replacement buildings on old land or newly built at new land locations.
Area 3 (old Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) has 4 school buildings, of which 3 are newly built and 1 is built to replace the old land.
After merging Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City has become the locality with the largest and most diverse educational scale in the country, with more than 3,500 educational institutions and nearly 2.6 million students.
The merger brings many advantages to the education and training sector of Ho Chi Minh City, but also poses many challenges: large administrative boundaries, diverse types (rural, urban, island communes, special zones...), uneven infrastructure between localities, especially in difficult and densely populated areas.
Therefore, the education sector is focusing on researching solutions to ensure quality and teaching conditions suitable for the new situation.
In particular, promoting the construction of schools to ensure the target of 300 classrooms/10,000 people of school age (from 3 to 18 years old) is still a key effort of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger.
The goal is to ensure 100% of students have a place to study, reduce class size, and reasonably adjust class size/school size.
This is one of the city's great efforts to effectively implement Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, maintain and improve the quality of education, organize 2-session teaching/day, and simultaneously deploy key projects, plans and educational programs of the city.
