ADB will provide emergency financial assistance of up to $3 million to Sri Lanka, $2 million to Thailand and $2 million to Vietnam, following requests for support from governments , according to Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda.

This is a necessary move in the context of floods that have caused severe damage to people, property and infrastructure across South Asia and Southeast Asia. Statistics show that the death toll is now more than 1,140 people, many people are still missing.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the devastating floods. The governments and people of Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam can rest assured that ADB will support the countries to stabilize and rebuild affected communities,” said Mr. Kanda.

According to this ADB leader, the bank will quickly cooperate closely with countries to support people affected by terrible natural disasters.

The grants, drawn from the Asia- Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF), will support emergency and humanitarian efforts.

The APDRF is a source of rapid funding to developing member countries to assist people immediately after major natural disasters.
