'Keeping' workers living and working in Hai Phong

To 'retain' workers, especially those from other provinces, many businesses and units in Hai Phong have increased support solutions to help workers feel secure in staying and working.

Increased benefits

In the past 11 months, the Hai Phong City Employment Service Center organized 98 job fairs. The fairs attracted more than 1,500 businesses to participate in job fairs with a recruitment demand of more than 370,000 people, twice as much as the same period last year.

According to Nguyen Thi Thanh, Head of the Department of Consulting, Job Introduction and Vocational Training (Hai Phong Employment Service Center), the recruitment positions are quite diverse, from unskilled labor, not requiring skills or qualifications, to engineering teams, management positions requiring experience. In fact, many businesses are willing to "lower" some requirements to recruit enough workers, and then implement plans to support training and retraining of workers.

At Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dai An Industrial Park), maintaining high and stable income for employees is a matter of great concern. Mr. Nguyen Viet Tri, Chairman of the Company's Trade Union, informed: The company employs more than 2,000 workers with an average income of about 15 million VND/person/month. In addition, employees also enjoy many periodic regimes on Tet and holidays, special bonuses depending on annual revenue, 12 days off/year and 6 days off with full salary paid by the company.

In addition, the company also has many annual movement activities such as year-end parties, family festivals, sports festivals, sports tournaments, volunteer activities, charity... for employees. Along with that are activities to care for and give gifts to employees and their relatives on holidays such as Tet, Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day June 1, birthdays. Each employee also receives 500,000 VND on the occasion of the company's founding anniversary.

Ms. Phi Thi Loan, Head of the Dinh Vu Industrial Park Trade Union Presidents Club, informed: In 2025, the general welfare of workers will be significantly improved, with attendance support reaching 489,000 VND/month, travel support 452,000 VND/month, and shift meals nearly 35,000 VND/person/meal (an increase of about 11% compared to last year). Many businesses support housing rent at 350,000 VND/person/month, adding support due to hot weather, seniority, standing for a long time... to encourage morale, motivate workers to stick with the business, and limit the situation of workers "job hopping" and changing jobs.

In addition, many businesses are interested in arranging rooms and accommodation for workers. For example, thousands of workers from other provinces working at Brother Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd. (Phuc Dien Industrial Park) are provided with free accommodation in the dormitory. The dormitory has more than 400 rooms, along with many multi-purpose rooms. This is one of the pioneering models of worker housing in the west of Hai Phong.

Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dai An Industrial Park) also has an artificial football field, gym, yoga, aerobics (with bathroom) for free, resting area, supermarket... for employees and workers.

Open opportunities for settlement

Brother Industrial Vietnam Co., Ltd. has a comfortable dormitory, arranging accommodation for workers from outside coming to the city to work.

The above solutions are only temporary. In the long term, there needs to be solutions to help migrant workers stay together and avoid the situation of "one foot leaving, one foot returning".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, from Thanh Hoa, works at Aurora Shoe Industry Company Limited, is renting a room in Thien Huong Ward and said she has worked in Hai Phong for nearly 5 years. She and her husband are both from other provinces and came to Hai Phong to work. With savings of about 500 million VND, she and her husband hope to buy social housing and work here.

The number of social housing is constantly increasing, giving workers and low-income workers more opportunities to access. In 2025, the city is continuing to invest in building more than 20,800 social housing units for workers and low-income workers. It is expected that by the end of 2025, about 10,800 units will be completed; fulfilling the target assigned by the Prime Minister .

The city also adjusted the goals and targets for social housing development in the 2021-2030 period to ensure consistency with the new administrative boundaries after the merger. The total target for social housing development in Hai Phong city (new) by 2030 is updated to 49,455 units, based on the consolidation of targets of Hai Phong city (old) and Hai Duong province (old).

In early December, a large-scale job fair was held at the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Labor Palace. The City Labor Federation coordinated with relevant departments, branches and units to organize the display of about 130 booths, job consultation, social housing projects; job consultation programs and skill practice...

The program will be an effective bridge between workers and businesses, contributing to job creation, sustainable labor restructuring, meeting the socio-economic development requirements of the city and the country. Along with that, it will support union members, workers, students, demobilized soldiers and freelance workers to access market information, recruitment trends, career orientation and suitable job opportunities.

Not only being consulted and introduced to jobs, at the festival, workers were also consulted and introduced to completed and under-construction social housing projects; open-for-sale apartments; registration process, procedures for buying social housing; support for low-interest loans for union members and workers. Along with that, there were a series of meaningful events such as: talkshow "Touching the dream: Housing within reach - Jobs within reach"; seminars to answer questions about social housing policies...
