On the morning of September 1, Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) once again affirmed his class with a convincing 3-0 victory (7-6, 6-3, 6-4) over Arthur Rinderknech of France in the fourth round of the US Open 2025.
The match not only took him to the quarter-finals but also left his mark with an impromptu and technical backhand that sent the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd into a frenzy.
The incident happened in the first set, when the score was 2-2. In a seemingly difficult situation, Alcaraz suddenly hit the ball behind his back, sending the ball down the line, causing Rinderknech to fumble and miss.
This spectacular shot not only helped him score points but also showed the confidence and dedicated playing style of the 22-year-old player.

"Sometimes I practice this shot. I won't lie. But I don't practice too much. Only in practice, if I have the chance, I try it. In a match, the same. If I have the chance, why not," Alcaraz shared after the match.
With this victory, Alcaraz became the youngest male tennis player in the open era to reach 13 Grand Slam quarterfinals, surpassing the record of legend Boris Becker.
He also became the third player, after Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal, to reach the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same year.
In the remaining notable matches, Novak Djokovic easily defeated Jan-Lennard Struff to advance to the US Open quarterfinals for the 14th time. Despite some physical problems and needing the care of a physiotherapist, the Serbian still showed his superiority.
