NDO - Majestic, authentic, and inspiring are the feelings of many veterans and tourists when standing before the panoramic mural depicting the Dien Bien Phu Campaign at the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum (Dien Bien province) during those historic days of March.

The Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum was built in 2012 and inaugurated in 2014 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. This is a modern architectural structure; its exterior is designed in the shape of a bamboo hat covered with camouflage netting, along with a system of concrete and steel frames forming a rhombus, symbolizing the padded jackets worn by the Dien Bien Phu soldiers of the past.

Numerous tourists from all over the country visited the museum during March this year.

From early morning, visitors lined up to wait for their turn to visit and admire the panoramic painting of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, located on the second floor of the museum.

The panoramic painting of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign is divided into four historical segments based on the theme: The entire nation goes to war; The heroic prelude; The historic confrontation; The Dien Bien Phu victory.

This monumental artwork, covering an area of ​​3,250 square meters and painted in oil, was created with the contributions of nearly 100 artists over a period of two and a half years. It depicts the grandeur of the Vietnamese people and army's struggle to defend the homeland, exemplified by the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. Artist Nguyen Van Mac was the lead artist in creating this panoramic painting.

Mr. Truong Son (Hanoi) shared: "In my mind, museums are just places to display historical artifacts. I was truly surprised that history is recreated so authentically on this giant mural. This is definitely a new must-see destination when traveling to Dien Bien."

The tour guide leads the viewers through each segment of the painting. The image shows segment 1, "The Entire Nation Goes to War," depicting countless groups of civilians and soldiers carrying supplies, climbing mountains and crossing streams to provide food for the front lines.

According to statistics, in just the first week of March, the number of visitors to the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum reached nearly 2,000 and is expected to continue to increase sharply in the coming time.

"Looking at the painting, I imagined myself living in the heroic atmosphere of our ancestors' Dien Bien Phu campaign. I felt more deeply the victory and also the losses and sacrifices of our forefathers so that we could have a peaceful life today," shared Mr. Toan, a tourist from Hai Phong.

Mr. Tran Dinh Duong, a veteran who participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, is now 91 years old. He was deeply moved as he recorded his feelings on his return to the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum.
