Indonesian newspaper recalls the sad memory of the home team against the Vietnamese women's team

"It is not easy to get through the group stage when both the Vietnamese and Thai women's teams have quality squads," CNN Indonesia expressed before the opening match of the Indonesian women's team against Thailand in Group A of the 2025 AFF Cup taking place at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ) at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon (August 6).

According to an Indonesian newspaper, coach Joko Susilo's team has the task of changing the image of the archipelago team at the AFF Cup 2025 despite having to face the two strongest opponents of the tournament right from the group stage.

"The best achievement of the Indonesian women's team at the AFF Cup was fourth place in the first tournament held 21 years ago. After that, the Indonesian women's team was always stuck in the group stage and lost to other opponents," Bola newspaper emphasized.

Notably, in the history of the AFF Cup, the Indonesian women's team has suffered many heavy defeats when facing Thailand and Vietnam. At the 2019 AFF Cup, the Indonesian women's team suffered a 0-7 defeat against the Vietnamese women's team. At the 2022 AFF Cup, the team from the archipelago also suffered a heavy defeat against Thailand with a score of 0-4.

However, that was not the Indonesian women's team's record defeat in the international arena, as they lost to the Australian women's team 0-18 in the 2022 Asian Cup qualifiers.

In September 2024, during a training trip in Japan, the Indonesian women's team also lost to Urawa Reds Club and also lost with a "humiliating" score of 1-18.

At the AFF Cup 2025, the Indonesian women's team hopes to improve their performance by calling up three naturalized players of Dutch origin, Isa Warps, Estella Loupattij and Noa Leatomu, to strengthen the squad.
