Construction Newspaper and readers give away turnkey houses in Thai Nguyen.
The family of Mr. Trieu Huu Binh (Ha Son hamlet, Than Sa commune) is one of the households that received a new house built with a support package of 120 million VND from Mr. Nguyen Huy Quy, Chairman of Thang Long Mineral Exploitation and Construction Investment Joint Stock Company.

Ways to support Than Sa people to overcome historic floods

Standing right on the empty land where just ten days ago was the home of Mr. Trieu Huu Binh and his wife (Ha Son hamlet, Than Sa commune), Mr. Quy, chairman of a large enterprise participating in the relief team of Xay Dung Newspaper, said firmly: "Someone will come soon to measure and then build. The company would like to support 360 million VND to build houses for 3 households who are temporarily living in tents."

Knowing that the working group had a plan to donate 40 million VND to each house, joining hands with the local government to build 11 new houses for the people, Mr. Quy immediately supported but he had his own way. Seeing with his own eyes the scene of a couple with children in poverty, an old couple sleeping temporarily on the old house, afraid that waiting for money and waiting for the commune to approve would take a long time, Mr. Quy volunteered to donate 3 houses in advance in the style of "turnkey", each house costing 120 million VND. Surely these houses will be completed soon, he affirmed.

Mr. Binh stood still without any reaction, his face still blankly looking at the bed and the fake stone cement table and chairs - the only things left after the flood. His wife spoke up: "Thank you for your help, our family has more confidence to start from zero." That night, Binh's wife grabbed her 3 children and ran up the hill. Her husband worked far away. The house was lost, now eating, drinking, and all the furniture depended on everyone's support.

In Than Sa commune, it was a light rain in the morning, the dirt road leading to Ha Son village was muddy after the storm. Most of the people who came to receive gifts were ethnic people, the elderly with canes, the young carrying their children, their faces still showing signs of fatigue after the historic storm. Everyone spoke in their ethnic language, and only when we asked did they cautiously share.

After receiving the rice, milk and food, the villagers turned to sign for cash. "1 million VND per person, very precious," a woman in the village told the reporter and hurriedly carried the relief goods into the crowd.

At the Ha Son commune cultural house, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Editor-in-Chief of Construction Newspaper, reported very quickly so that everyone could focus on handing over money and goods: "Dear people, the whole country is heartbroken to witness the scene of flooding in Thai Nguyen. Construction Newspaper, in coordination with benefactors and readers of the Newspaper, would like to donate money to support the construction of 11 houses (40 million VND/person), completely rebuild 3 houses (120 million VND/person), along with 272 gifts worth 1 million VND/person and more than 6.5 tons of food from Masan Group, 5 tons of rice, milk and many necessities for people, teachers and students of difficult communes in Thai Nguyen. I hope that people will try to overcome this period. This is the social responsibility of journalists in the Construction industry, of benefactors and readers of the Newspaper".

Touched by the delegation's concern, Mr. Le Dinh Tan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Than Sa commune, expressed: "Today's gifts are not only material, but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping people to have more determination to overcome difficulties and rise up after natural disasters. With the trust of Construction Newspaper, the commune will have a way to help people rebuild the lost houses soon."

For people in flood-affected areas, small gifts cannot erase all the loss, but "a piece of food when hungry is worth a whole package when full" - that is humanity, the timely sharing that gives them the strength to stand up after the storm and flood.

Mr. Trieu Huu Suu, Head of Ha Son village, emotionally said: "In the midst of the devastation, the ladies and gentlemen came to encourage us, handing out gifts and money, many people shed tears."

Mr. Ly Van Phung and his wife lost their house to the flood but still kept their 3 buffaloes. Mr. Phung will have a new house donated by the Newspaper's relief team.

In Than Sa commune, when the delegation stopped at the house of Mr. Ly Van Phung - a Mong ethnic, he said: "Because I regretted losing my buffalo herd, I tried to stay. My house is gone, if I go somewhere else now, I will lose my buffaloes. Now the house only has an empty plot of land left, and the soldiers helped me build a temporary shelter. Today, Construction Newspaper and benefactors came to visit and support the house building, I am very grateful."

After the storm, Trang Xa will revive

In the afternoon of Trang Xa commune, it rained heavily at times, but the meeting hall of the commune People's Committee was unusually warm during the gift-giving ceremony for nearly 200 households in the flood-affected areas. From early morning, people were present in large numbers, hoping to receive sharing in the difficult days. For them, rice and necessities at this time are not only food but also a source of life and a consolation in the midst of loss.

Welcoming the delegation of Construction Newspaper, businesses and donors, Secretary of the Trang Xa Commune Party Committee Duong Quoc Toan emotionally showed us photos of people having to cook rice from swollen rice after many days of being soaked in flood water.

Receiving gifts from the working group, Mr. Hoang Van Hong, Mong ethnic group, Choi Hong hamlet, Trang Xa commune, also choked up: "After the flood, our houses were flooded with mud, all our properties were damaged. Receiving the support gifts, we are truly grateful. Having rice to eat, money to repair the house, and taking care of our children, this joy is hard to put into words."

The remaining brotherly affection

The working group arrived at Nam Hoa commune when it was already dark. Although we only had time to inform quickly by phone after the provincial leaders said that the area was still very difficult, the commune leaders and dozens of officials were still waiting in the committee yard, the lights shining on their tired but still enthusiastic faces.

Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Quang shared that after the flood, many households lost all their property, their houses were damaged, especially some schools were seriously degraded. The local government hopes to receive more attention and support from units, organizations and benefactors to soon repair schools, helping students have a safe place to study.

After a quick discussion with the sponsors, Construction Newspaper donated 150 million VND to support the locality in repairing Cay Thi Kindergarten to help students return to class soon. In addition, the delegation donated 1 ton of rice, nearly 2,000 boxes of Meatdeli food and TH True milk to flood victims and students, contributing to sharing difficulties so that people can stabilize their lives after the natural disaster.

The sound of the container truck stopped in the quiet night, dozens of people including leaders, cadres, and civil servants of Nam Hoa commune and the working group of Xay Dung Newspaper quickly helped each other unload nearly 2,000 boxes of food. Cheerful voices echoed in the night, encouraging each other. The conversation between the relief team and the commune cadres no longer had a distance between the arrival of guests and the person receiving them, only the love of fellow countrymen remained.

Before saying goodbye, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang quickly said, "I am really touched because this is the first group that not only supports the people, but also shows affection for the entire team of cadres and workers of the commune, who for many days have been struggling with the people to overcome the consequences of the storm."

Dozens of people, including leaders, officials, and civil servants of Nam Hoa commune, along with a delegation from the Construction Newspaper, quickly unloaded nearly 2,000 boxes of meat and milk in the dark.

The journey to Than Sa, Trang Xa, Nam Hoa ended with tight handshakes, tearful eyes and emotional smiles. The gifts given were not only rice, milk or financial support, but also the hearts, the love of fellow countrymen, the warmth of people far away towards the flood-hit areas.

For Construction Newspaper, philanthropists and readers, each trip like that not only has the meaning of sharing material things but also the responsibility and affection of journalists and units towards the community. After the storm and flood, life in the highlands is still full of hardships, but faith and humanity have never been exhausted.

Storms and floods can sweep away houses and fields, but they cannot sweep away people's patriotism, compassion and will to rise up.
