Through investigation, District 1 Police (HCMC) have broken up two gangs of robbers, property thieves and transnational stolen vehicle traffickers.
On June 29, District 1 Police (HCMC) initiated a case, prosecuted the accused, and detained Tran Thanh H. (born in 2010), Nguyen Minh T., Nguyen Xuan Th. (both born in 2009), Nguyen Dang V. (born in 2009), and Chung Van Th. (born in 2006) for the crimes of "Robbery" and "Receiving property obtained by others through crime".
According to the investigation, H. group had no jobs so they decided to rob. In the early morning of June 8, H. group discovered Mr. Q. on De Tham street (Pham Ngu Lao ward, district 1) so they approached him and snatched his phone before escaping. H. group ran back to meet Th. and gave him the property to help sell.
About 2 hours later, the group went to the front of the cinema on Kinh Duong Vuong Street (Ward 13, District 6), approached and snatched the phone of the man driving a motorbike taxi. Th. sold the 2 phones for 10 million VND but informed H.'s group that he only sold them for 5 million VND.
H. took the money and divided it among the group members. Through investigation, the police arrested H.'s group.
* Previously, on the evening of May 16, Ms. H. parked her motorbike at a photo studio on Ho Tung Mau Street (Ben Nghe Ward) and went inside. At this time, Le Van Thien Loc (born in 1995) approached on foot and stole Ms. H's motorbike.
After stealing, Loc sold it to Pham Ta Hoang Huy (born in 1989) for 3.5 million VND. After investigation, the police arrested Huy and Loc.
Huy said he met Loc online because they were both in a car buying and selling group. Regarding the property, Huy sold it to Pham Thanh Nhieu (born in 1987) for 4.2 million VND. After buying the car, Nhieu hired someone to take it to Tay Ninh province to store it and resell it to Lam Van Thai (born in 1980) for 5 million VND.
Since the beginning of February 2024, Nhieu and Huy have been in contact and discussing the purchase and sale of motorbikes without papers and have agreed to “cooperate” in purchasing motorbikes obtained through crime. The police have identified this group as a transnational gang of thieves and property sellers.
Up to now, the police have prosecuted and detained Loc, Huy, and Nhieu for the crimes of "Theft of property" and "Receiving property obtained by others through crime".
