The Dong Nai Department of Construction has proposed renovating and creating squares associated with important historical landmarks and relics in Bien Hoa City. The goal is to preserve and promote local cultural values and create community spaces for residents.

According to the Department, although Bien Hoa is a large city, it still lacks many cultural facilities such as theaters, cultural centers, squares, and stadiums. Some facilities, although already built, are not up to par. The situation of "both shortage and weakness" in investment in cultural infrastructure is a major challenge for the city.

Among the proposals, the most prominent are the creation of the River Street Square and the Ancient Citadel Square. These are two major historical landmarks of the province.

The Ancient Citadel, closely associated with 325 years of Biên Hòa's historical development, boasts unique architecture and culture, providing a space for people to enjoy. The Department of Construction has proposed the idea of creating a square within the ancient citadel. This would create an independent space, like an outdoor "room," for visitors. The square would be surrounded by the facades of nearby buildings and would open seamlessly to Phan Chu Trinh Street, creating a sense of closeness, safety, and friendliness.

Previously, regarding this square, architect Dang Quang Vinh suggested that the connecting space would extend from Bien Hoa Ancient Citadel through Phan Chu Trinh Street to the Dong Nai River, creating a community area and opening up a vibrant and novel living space.

The existing Song Pho Square lacks a community gathering space.

Similarly, Song Pho Square, a national monument since 1991, is the main intersection between Cach Mang Thang Tam Street and 30/4 Street. Song Pho Square is connected to two other national monuments: Bien Hoa Ancient Citadel (about 100m away) and Binh Truoc Assembly Hall (about 20m away). From this intersection, people can easily access the central areas and routes of Bien Hoa city.

Currently, this area is experiencing traffic congestion due to the high density of vehicles and surrounding buildings, which has diminished its original function as a community space.

Around Song Pho Square are the Provincial People's Committee, many schools, churches, etc.

The Department of Construction has proposed renovating the Song Pho Square area into a long, corridor-like space, with distinctive cultural buildings at both ends. This new space will serve community activities such as exhibitions, art performances, and regular cultural events.

The reorganization of these two squares will be based on the principle of not directly impacting historical relics, but focusing on improving the space and landscape, creating conditions for people to connect, learn, and enjoy local culture. This is also a way to increase the value of the relics and preserve the soul of Bien Hoa through vibrant and distinctive cultural spaces.
