According to Dung Taylor, the couple's 11-year engagement was "a test of each other." When they first met, Dung Taylor was single and had no experience in marriage or raising children. Thu Phuong believed that Dung Taylor lacked the experience, patience, and tolerance to be a husband and father. After 11 years of living together, weathering storms and ups and downs, they decided to become legally married under US law.
