In 2012, a survey by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism indicated that 60% of foreigners believed the Hallyu wave would cool down after five years.

More than double that amount of time has passed, and Hallyu has not only failed to cool down, but seems to be just beginning to reach its peak.
Even the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Koreans, and in areas of expertise like popular music, it's no surprise that they continue to be in the spotlight.
In October alone, three out of four members of BlackPink, currently the world's biggest girl group, simultaneously returned with individual projects, beginning a new era that is no longer the familiar "Pink Venom."
It's Rosé
Inspired by a Korean drinking game, Rosé created the hit song APT. - a playful, mischievous track with a mischievous, quirky spirit, yet as addictive as the game it depicts. Drinking games are nothing new in works of Hallyu culture.
In director Hong Sang Soo's critically acclaimed Western films, the drinking table is where characters reveal their deepest secrets, anxieties, and genuine desires.

Bruno Mars and Rosé
In a cheerful and carefree pop-funk song like APT., the drinking session is simply a fun gathering, an excuse to express feelings.
Collaborating with Bruno Mars provides Rosé with much-needed support when she doesn't have her BlackPink bandmates around.
Bruno Mars' vocals, the hallmark of an artist from Motown Records—a legendary label that once breathed modern life into soul music—provide the necessary depth to anchor an incredibly catchy, incredibly sweet, incredibly relaxing, yet also easily drifting melody.
And more importantly, as the lead songwriter of APT., Rosé demonstrates an expansion of her personal expressive space.
It's true that she started out as an idol singing songs assigned to her by the system, but she could absolutely go much further than that.

To Lisa
As the most hardworking member of BlackPink, Lisa has just released her third single in just 4 months - Moonlit Floor.

While this song isn't as groundbreaking as Rosé's APT., there's hardly anything to say about it except for speculation that it might be dedicated to her dreamy real-life romance.
But if you place Moonlight Floor within the context of Lisa's recent portfolio, it shows her versatility and continuous visual evolution.
From Rockstar – a rebellious hip hop track with a vibrant beat that evokes images of neon-lit streets, to New Woman – an electronic pop song that is both fierce and charming.
And now, Moonlit Floor is completely sweet and feminine, with Lisa portraying a princess immersed in love, instead of the fiery, powerful images from Rockstar.
Finally, there's Jennie.
Jennie also showed significant development in her personal musical style with "Mantra," the lead single for her first solo album.

Jennie
As a member of BlackPink, Jennie is often utilized for her high-energy rap parts, which perfectly suit the title tracks.
In Mantra, we can feel Jennie's vocals becoming increasingly well-controlled. And when alone, she freely expresses all aspects of her artistry, still bright and energetic, but with an added touch of mystery in the alluring, husky whispers.
If we look at famous bands throughout history, after splitting up, some members will continue to be successful (even more so than when they were in the band), while others will gradually lose their appeal. This is because only when they go their separate ways can people clearly see the limitations or all-around abilities of an artist – qualities that might be obscured when they are part of a group.
Among the four girls, Rosé, Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo (the oldest member who hasn't returned yet), who will continue to be successful? Who will gradually fade into obscurity?
Whatever the answer may be in the future, right now, they are probably ready to shed their old identity associated with BlackPink – a shared identity that made them famous, but which has likely also swallowed up their individual identities and a significant amount of their creative freedom.
