Accordingly, on the morning of January 9, 2024, Regiment 929, Division 372, Air Defense-Air Force Command, conducted training flights at Da Nang airport as planned.
The Su-22 aircraft, serial number 5880, piloted by Captain Do Tien Duc, Squadron Commander of Squadron 1, took off at 11:04 AM. At 11:14 AM, the pilot reported a problem and was unable to return to land. The flight commander ordered the pilot to try to steer the aircraft away from densely populated areas and proceed with parachuting.
The pilot attempted to steer the aircraft away from residential areas and parachuted out 19 km south of the runway in Dien Nam Trung commune, Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province. The aircraft sustained damage, but there were no casualties at the crash site; the pilot parachuted safely and is in stable condition.
Currently, the Air Defense and Air Force Command has directed relevant agencies to coordinate with local authorities to seal off the scene and conduct an investigation into the incident.
