Minister of Public Security: Corruption and position cases detected increased by more than 20%

In 2024, environmental crimes will decrease, but the number of social disorder cases last year will increase by 12%; corruption and position cases discovered and investigated will increase by more than 20%.

On the morning of November 26, authorized by the Prime Minister , Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang presented a report on crime prevention and law violation prevention in 2024.

The report shows that environmental crimes have decreased, but the number of social disorder cases last year increased by 12%; corruption and position cases discovered and investigated increased by more than 20%. Meanwhile, crime prevention work is assessed as “not very effective.”

The number of social order crimes increased by more than 12%

According to the report, the situation of crimes against social order continues to be complicated, the number of crimes increased by 12.53%. The rate of investigation and discovery of crimes against social order reached 83.48%; of which very serious cases (penalty range from 7-15 years) reached 95.15%, especially serious cases (maximum penalty range death) reached 97.08%.

Crimes related to corruption, economic crimes, and smuggling continued to develop complicatedly in many areas in most localities. The number of corruption and position-related crimes detected, investigated, and handled was 20.55% higher; the number of crimes related to economic management order was 2.4% lower, and the number of smuggling cases was 8.25% higher.

The report also shows that the situation of drug-related crimes and social evils continues to be complicated. The authorities have destroyed many large, transnational drug rings and drug dens; and transformed complex drug-related areas at the grassroots level. The number of drug-related crimes detected and handled increased by 2.49%.

High-tech crimes continue to increase with many new methods and tricks of crime. Authorities have blocked access to over 23,500 websites and social media accounts that violate the law; prosecuted 1,521 cases and 658 criminals.

Crimes and violations of the law on environment, resources, and food safety occur in many areas and areas. The number of environmental, resource, and food safety crimes detected and handled is 53.46% less.

The report pointed out that the crime and law violations situation is still complicated; crime prevention work "has not been very effective." The rate of handling crime reports, denunciations, and recommendations for prosecution has not met the targets set by the National Assembly. Violations in crime investigation, handling, and temporary detention have decreased, but there are still some cases that must be handled criminally.

Social order and safety are still complicated, the number of traffic accidents, fires and explosions has increased, some cases have caused many deaths and injuries... Administrative violations still occur in many areas.

The Minister of Public Security also informed that the work of immigration management continues to be maintained and ensured. Prevention and fight against crimes and violations of the law on management and use of weapons, explosives, support tools and fireworks are stepped up; conditional business activities on security and order are strictly managed... However, traffic accidents and explosions continue to increase; some particularly serious cases occur, killing and injuring many people.

Nearly 1,500 citizens rescued from Myanmar back home

Minister Luong Tam Quang said that in recent times, ministries, branches and localities have continued to coordinate, advise and organize cooperation with international agencies and organizations, and border provinces on crime prevention and control; human trafficking prevention and control; and drug prevention and control. Citizen protection work has been carried out, rescuing nearly 1,500 citizens from Myanmar to return home.

According to the Minister, in recent times, the work of receiving and handling denunciations, reports of crimes and recommendations for prosecution has been carried out in accordance with the provisions of law; the settlement rate reached 86.05%. Investigation agencies at all levels have strictly implemented the provisions of law in the work of investigating and handling crimes, the work of arresting, detaining and holding; the requirements and tasks of investigating and handling crimes; contributing to preventing violations and negativity in investigation activities.

In addition, administrative violations were basically detected and handled promptly by the authorities, ensuring proper authority, order and procedures according to the provisions of law. The number of administrative violations handled increased by 2.12%.

Regarding solutions to prevent and combat crime and law violations in 2025, Minister Luong Tam Quang said that the world and regional situation is forecast to have many complicated developments. To improve the effectiveness of crime prevention and combat, the Government focuses on directing and implementing many key tasks and solutions.

According to Minister Luong Tam Quang, the causes of the above-mentioned shortcomings and limitations are mainly due to the conditions for crime and law violations continuing to increase; the roles and responsibilities of Party committees, authorities, and heads of some agencies, organizations, and units have not been promoted.

Resources for crime prevention and law violation prevention have not yet met practical requirements; the capacity, qualifications and sense of responsibility of a number of cadres, civil servants and public employees have not yet met practical requirements.

In 2025, the Minister of Public Security said that the Government will continue to proactively direct the improvement of the quality of work in grasping, analyzing, forecasting the situation, providing early and remote strategic advice... Effectively implementing plans and solutions to ensure security and safety.

Focus on detecting, preventing, and neutralizing plots, terrorist activities, sabotage, and inciting protests that disrupt security and order by hostile, reactionary forces and opposing subjects. Direct authorities at all levels to effectively resolve disputes and complaints early, from the grassroots level.

Focus on identifying and proactively implementing sustainable crime control solutions, striving to achieve the set targets. Strongly and resolutely attack and suppress all types of crimes; improve the quality and effectiveness of receiving and handling crime reports and denunciations, recommending prosecution and investigating and handling crimes, promptly and thoroughly overcoming the limitations and violations that have been pointed out.

In addition, step up patrolling, controlling, and handling violations of traffic order and safety and fire and explosion prevention and control; ensure security and safety of detention facilities./.
