Minister of Health affirms that he will strictly handle violations in the case of 'refusing emergency treatment due to unpaid hospital fees'

(PLVN) - The Minister of Health directly visited and encouraged the child patient who had an accident in the incident of 'being denied emergency treatment due to unpaid hospital fees', and directed that any violations will be strictly handled.

The child is out of danger.

This morning, May 5, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan visited the National Children's Hospital to visit patient MTA (4 years old, from Nam Dinh ) who had a serious traffic accident when a homemade tricycle ran over him in the "Hospital requires enough money before providing emergency care" incident that occurred at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital on May 3.

Reporting to Minister Dao Hong Lan, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Dien - Director of the National Children's Hospital said that immediately after receiving the child transferred from Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital on May 3, the doctors urgently ordered tests and CT scans to assess the condition. Due to an accident caused by a homemade tricycle running over the child, the child's condition was very serious. The doctors performed emergency surgery on the child that night.

"As of this morning (May 5), the patient's condition has improved a lot. After 1 day on a ventilator, the patient has now been weaned off the ventilator and is breathing on his own. The patient has passed the critical stage. We will do our best to provide the best treatment for the patient," said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Dien.

At the hospital, the Minister of Health directed the National Children's Hospital to provide the best treatment for the patient and said that he had asked the Nam Dinh Department of Health to coordinate with the province's authorities to urgently clarify the people's complaints.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan encouraged the patient's parents and said that she had directed the National Children's Hospital to make every effort to treat and care for the child as best as possible and encouraged the patient's family to feel secure and trust the doctors.

Expressing his gratitude for the concern of Minister Dao Hong Lan as well as the efforts of the medical staff of the National Children's Hospital to save his son, the father of patient MTA wants the doctors to continue to care for and treat his son so that he can recover quickly.

Regarding the reflection that the doctor at Nam Dinh General Hospital refused to provide emergency care to patient MTA because he had not paid the hospital fee, the Minister of Health requested the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to send a document to the Director of Nam Dinh Department of Health to urgently direct the implementation of a number of contents, such as: Reviewing the process of receiving and treating emergency care for patient MTA at Nam Dinh General Hospital, comparing with the provisions of Article 44, Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15 and current regulations; Strictly handling individuals and groups if violations of the above regulations are detected.

At the same time, coordinate with the National Children's Hospital to detect professional limitations (if any) and promptly correct them.

The head of the health sector affirmed: "Currently, the Ministry of Health is focusing heavily on continuing to innovate the spirit and attitude of serving the people. Many criteria have been put forward to ensure people's satisfaction with the health sector. There have been regulations in the law and many directives and directions of the Ministry of Health up to now: Emergency and treatment for patients is always the top priority, no matter what the reason."

The Minister added that to ensure objectivity, the Nam Dinh Department of Health has invited the Internal Political Security Department - Nam Dinh Provincial Police to review all procedures for receiving and handling related to the case of MTA.

"The results will be reported to the Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Health for appropriate handling. The general spirit is that if there are violations, they will be strictly handled," said Minister Dao Hong Lan.
