While being demolished, the wall of a house on Mau Than Street, Xuan Khanh Ward, Ninh Kieu District ( Can Tho City) suddenly collapsed, crushing two motorbikes and causing minor injuries to one person.

On the afternoon of March 15th, a house wall collapsed near the intersection of Mau Than, 3/2, and Tran Hung Dao streets in Xuan Khanh ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city.

Video showing the scene of the wall collapse during the demolition of a house to make way for a traffic intersection renovation project.

According to initial information, at 2 PM, a group of three workers were dismantling a wall that was 3.5 meters high, 5 meters wide, and approximately 6 meters long.

As a worker was cutting a horizontal beam, the wall suddenly collapsed, sending chunks of brick, concrete, and steel spilling onto nearly half of Mau Than Street and crushing two motorbikes parked nearby.

The wall collapsed, falling onto two motorbikes parked nearby.

It is understood that this house is among those slated for demolition and site handover to allow the Ninh Kieu District People's Committee to begin construction on the intersection of Mau Than - 3/2 - Tran Hung Dao streets (intersection number 1), which commenced on March 12th.

The aforementioned intersection is part of a project to renovate five central intersections in Ninh Kieu district, including: intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3/2 - Tran Hung Dao); intersection No. 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet); intersection No. 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu); intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3/2) and intersection No. 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4).

The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 will expand the at-grade intersection, controlled by traffic lights, and install independent right-turn lanes, with the following items: renovation and expansion of five intersections, sidewalks, trees, public lighting system, rainwater drainage system, fire fighting water supply system, traffic signals, etc.

Interchange No. 1, where Mau Than, 3/2, and Tran Hung Dao streets meet.

Phase 2 will consider the placement of overpasses or underpasses based on traffic demand.

The project has a total construction investment of over 1.196 billion VND from the State budget, and is managed by the Ninh Kieu District People's Committee. A significant portion of this is allocated to land acquisition. For just the two intersections (No. 1 and No. 4), the land acquisition cost exceeds 800 billion VND. Of this, nearly 700 billion VND is for intersection No. 1 and over 100 billion VND for intersection No. 4, affecting 160 households.

Regarding the investment and construction phase and the project implementation plan, it will not exceed four years. Specifically, in the two years (2023 - 2024), Ninh Kieu district will prioritize the implementation of two intersections with high traffic volume and frequent traffic congestion: intersections No. 1 and No. 4.

In 2025, further steps will be implemented in accordance with regulations, and project adjustments will be submitted as needed.
