Hue beef noodle soup becomes national intangible cultural heritage: Opportunity to elevate cuisine

(NLDO) - Being recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage has opened up many opportunities for Bun Bo Hue to elevate the value of traditional cuisine to the world.

Recently, on June 27, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to list Bun Bo Hue as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, affirmed that this is not only the pride of the people of the ancient capital but also opens up a great opportunity for Hue to elevate the value of traditional cuisine in the international arena.

In the context of Hue's efforts to build a profile to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the culinary field, this title is a true testament to the cultural depth and enduring vitality of Hue cuisine in general and Bun Bo Hue in particular.

To effectively promote this heritage brand, according to Mr. Hai, Hue needs to implement synchronous solutions. First of all, it is necessary to build a brand identity "Bun bo Hue - Vietnam's cultural heritage" with criteria on ingredients, processing techniques, enjoyment space and accompanying cultural stories.

Standardization and protection of brands are the basis for protecting heritage values from the risk of uncontrolled commercialization. At the same time, it is necessary to promote creative communication activities, connecting Bun Bo Hue with cultural and tourism products such as culinary experience tours, Bun Bo Hue festivals, or a series of culinary exchange events with cities at home and abroad.

Mr. Hai believes that these forms not only help spread the brand but also demonstrate creativity in preserving and promoting heritage. This is an important criterion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

On the other hand, training human resources, supporting beef noodle businesses to improve service quality, ensure food hygiene and safety and build a professional service style should also be prioritized. That is the way to preserve the spirit of heritage in contemporary life.

"From a simple dish, Bun Bo Hue is gradually becoming a symbol of cultural creativity of a city. If exploited effectively, this dish will not only help Hue get closer to the UNESCO title, but also contribute to bringing Vietnamese cuisine further on the world cultural map" - Mr. Hai acknowledged.
