Ornamental grapefruit worth tens of millions of dong 'flood' Hanoi streets to welcome the Lunar New Year

Ornamental pomelo trees, their vibrant yellow blossoms costing tens of millions of dong, have begun to appear on the streets of Hanoi , catering to people's early Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations.

With less than a month until the Lunar New Year of the Snake, gardeners in Hanoi have begun transporting ornamental pomelo trees in pots to Lac Long Quan Street for sale, catering to people who want to celebrate the New Year early.

At the stall of Mr. Nguyen Trong Duc (Tay Ho, Hanoi), dozens of ornamental pomelo trees, priced from 30 to 50 million VND, are proudly displayed, waiting for customers to buy them.

A characteristic of ornamental pomelo trees is that they require grafting many fruits onto the same tree; the actual fruits usually only account for 20-30%, while the rest are grafted fruits.

The worker used tape to secure the grapefruit to prevent them from falling off during transport.

"A beautiful ornamental pomelo tree will have three criteria: firstly, the trunk must have an attractive shape; secondly, the leaves must be lush, thick, and include both young and old leaves; and finally, it must have many fruits, with the pomelos being plump, round, and glossy yellow," Mr. Duc said.

The potted pomelo trees, laden with vibrant yellow fruit and lush foliage, attract passersby who stop to admire them.

According to garden owners, ornamental pomelo trees are very selective in terms of enthusiasts, as they require both financial resources and ample space for display.

Although ornamental pomelo trees have only recently been put on sale, many people have already come to see them and place orders to decorate their homes for Tet (Lunar New Year) early.

The ornamental pomelo tree, with its vibrant yellow blossoms and abundant fruit, symbolizes prosperity, good fortune, and represents completeness, wealth, and luck in the new year.
