How are ministerial-level hospitals in the South preparing for September 2?

Reporting to the Deputy Minister, Dr. Pham Thanh Viet, Deputy Director in charge of Management and Operations of Cho Ray Hospital, said that preparations have been carried out by the unit for over 2 months to ensure safety, service quality and the ability to respond promptly to any situation that may arise at the time.

Specifically, regarding facilities, inspection teams for electricity, water, fire prevention, sanitation and environment systems were established in all departments and offices.

Cho Ray Hospital focuses on checking every small detail such as lighting systems, ceiling fans, toilets, and coordinates with cleaning and quality management units to ensure the best living conditions for patients and staff during the holidays.

In terms of expertise, department leaders directly go to the rooms every day, continuously check the reserve of medicines, medical supplies, and arrange adequate beds... At the same time, the on-duty schedules of leaders, doctors, head nurses, and logistics staff have been fully prepared.

In particular, discharge procedures are also shortened, creating convenience for patients and relatives.

The hospital established outpatient and specialized emergency teams and developed a disaster response plan, preparing for possible surges in patient numbers after the holidays.

Regarding the technical system, Cho Ray Hospital has reserved blood, oxygen, electricity, network and information technology resources, and arranged for an information technology team to be on duty 24/7 to promptly handle incidents.

The departments also established fire prevention and fighting teams, organized periodic training and conducted regular inspections. In addition, online consultations, organ transplants and the ability to provide medical support to other localities were also put on the proactive stage.

At Thong Nhat Hospital, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Thanh, Director of the unit, said that they have reserved enough beds in all departments, arranged separate areas for each group of patients, and established two disaster emergency and rapid response teams capable of departing within 5 minutes to deploy emergency care outside the hospital.

However, Thong Nhat Hospital also faces a space challenge as the courtyard area - once used for crowded emergency situations - has been rebuilt.

Therefore, the hospital's leadership proposed to research alternative locations or coordinate with other large hospitals such as Cho Ray to prevent disaster situations.

Regarding equipment and management, in addition to ensuring oxygen and fire protection systems, Thong Nhat Hospital has added plans to check water reserves, information technology, as well as flood prevention plans in anticipation of heavy rain. Essential medicine supplies have been fully stocked for 4-5 days.

Thong Nhat Hospital also pays special attention to security work, with close coordination with the police force and Military Region 7 to prevent security and order risks. In addition, the Hospital is also ready to support other localities and coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health when requested.

MSc. Dr. Ngo Anh Tuan, Acting Director of Hospital 1A, informed that this place is currently treating about 360 patients. The hospital has prepared a number of emergency beds; 5 operating rooms are arranged to operate continuously; the blood bank is stocked and can be replenished quickly when needed.

At the same time, the hospital also coordinated with the supply unit to reserve oxygen, requesting additional reinforcement during the holidays. Regarding logistics, Hospital 1A increased 20% of administrative staff, reserved large capacity generators to operate the entire hospital, and water tanks that can be used for 5 days.

In addition, fire prevention, security and order, and infection control... are all strengthened by Hospital 1A.

Ready to support localities in case of major incidents

Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Deputy Minister of Health, emphasized that although the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd took place in the North, hospitals in the Southern region also needed to have thorough and synchronous medical preparations.

Preparation is not limited to medical expertise but also includes hospital administration.

The Ministry of Health's leaders reminded hospitals to ensure that backup power systems are activated as quickly as possible in case of power outages, to closely monitor water sources, and to maintain a green, clean, and beautiful landscape.

Forces from sanitation to information technology must be arranged to be on duty 24/7; core staff must be arranged in departments.

Regarding expertise, the Deputy Minister of Health requested hospitals to rehearse online consultations, prepare adequate human resources, medicine, and medical supplies for medical examination and treatment, organ transplants, shorten the discharge process, and have a reasonable plan for human resource coordination after the holiday.
