What happened to Mr. Trinh Van Quyet's Rolls-Royce supercars and yachts?

(Dan Tri) - Before being arrested, Mr. Trinh Van Quyet owned many yachts and luxury cars, but many of his assets were sold by the bank and passed to new owners.

Recently, the Board of Directors of FLC Group Joint Stock Company issued a resolution regarding transactions with a related party, FLC Faros Construction Joint Stock Company (ROS).

According to the report, FLC received notification from BIDV in October 2024 that the collateral asset, the FLC Albatross yacht, had been successfully sold for VND 23.65 billion. After deducting mandatory fees, BIDV collected the principal debt from the auction proceeds of VND 22.8 billion.

The FLC Albatross yacht, initially offered for sale in November 2022 with a starting price of 36 billion VND, saw its price drop to 23.294 billion VND at its seventh auction in January 2024, nearly 13 billion VND lower than the initial price. Despite this, after seven auctions, the yacht remained unsold, and the auction contract between BIDV Quy Nhon and Minh Phap Auction Company was subsequently terminated.

This asset is linked to the debt restructuring process following the indictment and arrest of former FLC Chairman Trinh Van Quyet on charges of "manipulation" and "concealing securities information," which led to a series of related assets being auctioned off by banks to recover debts. Notably, these included two Rolls-Royce supercars.

First is the Rolls-Royce Ghost, with many gold-plated details inside and out, that was once owned by former FLC Chairman Trinh Van Quyet. This luxury car was manufactured in 2011 in the UK and was one of the Rolls-Royce models used by the luxury brand's distributor in Vietnam before it came into Mr. Quyet's possession.

In October 2022, an auction company held an auction for the vehicle with a starting price of 10 billion VND. This was collateral for a credit agreement between FLC Faros Construction Joint Stock Company and BIDV Quy Nhon branch.

In April 2024, the owner of a private showroom in Hanoi told a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper that the car had been sold to someone in Dong Nai province since April. The resale price was not disclosed. Previously, after five unsuccessful auctions, the starting price for the car was reduced to 8.587 billion VND. However, this price did not include notarization fees, the auction sale contract, and any applicable taxes.

Another luxury car owned by Mr. Trinh Van Quyet has also found a new owner: a Rolls-Royce Phantom. This car was imported into the country in 2015 through official channels. This unique ultra-luxury model is one of six cars from the Dong Son Bronze Drum collection reserved for the Vietnamese market.

This Rolls-Royce Phantom was previously used as collateral for a loan taken out by FLC Land Company at Orient Commercial Bank (OCB). Last October, the bank announced it was selecting an auction house to sell it, with a starting price of over 28 billion VND.

However, the bank continuously lowered the asking price for the car. At the seventh auction in May 2023, the car found a buyer after the price was reduced to 16.6 billion VND, a decrease of 11.4 billion VND compared to the first auction.

In addition, the former FLC chairman also owned a rare Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman in Vietnam. This model was once favored by many heads of state...

According to informed sources, only two Maybach S600 Pullman cars have been imported into the country. One white one was spotted in Ho Chi Minh City, and the other black one is owned by Mr. Trinh Van Quyet.

Besides supercars and yachts, in November 2023, an auction company also announced the auction of 84 villas in the FLC Eco-tourism Urban Area in Sam Son City (now Sam Son Ward), Thanh Hoa Province, with a starting price of over 494 billion VND, lower than the starting price of 610 billion VND announced in early September 2023. The auctioned assets were collateral for FLC Group's debt at Orient Commercial Bank (OCB).
