Leading Indian oil, gas and technology corporations want to invest in Vietnam

On the afternoon of July 31st, in New Delhi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of India's National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, representatives of India's largest crude oil and natural gas corporation, and leaders of HCL Technology Group.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chairman of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC - under the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry ), briefed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on industrial corridors and their role in India's socio-economic development, industrialization, and modernization.

This is India's pioneering initiative to develop new industrial cities, smart cities, integrating next-generation technologies, especially in the semiconductor industry, revolutionizing manufacturing and industry to strengthen India's position in the global value chain, making it a global manufacturing hub and a manufacturing powerhouse. India aims to develop a digital economy worth $1 trillion by 2026, with Dholera in Gujarat being India's first semiconductor city… The Prime Minister, along with leaders of ministries and agencies and NICDC leaders, exchanged experiences and notable policies, especially in spatial planning for the development of various sectors. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the operational model, scale, vision, and role of NICDC in India's socio-economic development, modernization, and industrialization over the past period, particularly in developing strategic infrastructure and creating new development spaces and values. Considering this to be a good model with many experiences that Vietnam can study and learn from, the Prime Minister suggested that Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities closely coordinate with the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and NICDC, possibly establishing a working group to cooperate, research, and exchange experiences in the future.

Meanwhile, Mr. Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman of ONGC Videsh Ltd. - a subsidiary of ONGC, India's largest crude oil and natural gas corporation - highly appreciated the opportunity for cooperation with Vietnam based on the excellent comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries as well as Vietnam's great potential in the natural gas sector. The Prime Minister emphasized that oil and gas exploration, exploitation, and processing are important sectors for Vietnam, and energy cooperation is also very important in the bilateral relationship; he highly appreciated the corporation's cooperation and investment activities in Vietnam. The Prime Minister requested ONGC Videsh to continue promoting investment and cooperation with a number of potential and capable partners in Vietnam, especially the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group ( Petrovietnam ), to review and continue to improve existing projects, and implement new projects in oil and gas exploration, exploitation, and processing to ensure high efficiency, both in the short and long term. while also promoting cooperation in other energy sectors.

Later that same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Shikhar Malhotra, Director of HCL Group, an information technology company. HCL invested approximately US$20 million to establish representative offices in Hanoi in 2020 and Ho Chi Minh City in 2021. The company's revenue in Vietnam in 2023 reached US$16.5 million, creating over 1,000 jobs. The Prime Minister highly appreciated HCL's contributions to technological development and innovation. He also requested the group to strengthen cooperation and support in research and development of high-tech products and services, development of information technology infrastructure, technology transfer, human resource training, and placing orders with Vietnamese partners, including Viettel . Given the similarities between the two countries in this field, HCL's leadership stated that the group considers Vietnam a strategic investment location and is committed to strengthening cooperation in the areas mentioned by the Prime Minister.
