A fake "Compassion and Kindness" fanpage is soliciting donations and support for the restoration and renovation of Pho Quang Pagoda.
Immediately after discovering that several individuals and organizations were impersonating representatives of Pho Quang Pagoda and posting articles soliciting donations, the pagoda's representatives issued a statement affirming: Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate and clarify the cause of the fire at Pho Quang Pagoda. The information circulating on the pagoda's fan page calling for contributions to its restoration is inaccurate; people should be vigilant and not transfer money to personal bank accounts on the fake fan page.
To protect themselves from scams, people need to be vigilant and avoid sending donations or contributions to accounts of unknown origin. They should also report any fan pages or personal accounts showing signs of fraud to the authorities.
Phổ Quang Pagoda is a national historical and cultural relic, recognized by the State in Decision No. 92-VHTT/QD, dated July 10, 1980, of the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). The pagoda was built over 800 years ago and still preserves many valuable artifacts and relics, including a stone Buddha altar recognized as a national treasure.
On the morning of October 23, 2024, upon receiving reports from the public about a fire at Pho Quang Pagoda, the authorities promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, ensure security and order, maintain traffic safety, protect the scene, and conduct an initial investigation into the cause of the fire. Currently, the Institute of Criminal Science ( Ministry of Public Security ) is cooperating with the authorities to conduct an examination and clarify the cause of the Pho Quang Pagoda fire.
