Apple has just released an urgent security update for iPhones via iOS 18.6, and experts recommend that all users install it immediately. This is not just a simple update, it is a necessary layer of protection to stay away from increasingly sophisticated threats.
Update iOS 18.6 now to protect your iPhone |
According to the release notes, the iOS 18.6 update fixes a total of 24 different security flaws. The most alarming, however, is a zero-day vulnerability in WebKit — the core browser platform that powers Safari.
With this bug, hackers can execute malicious code remotely during the browser's graphics processing, thereby bypassing the sandbox mechanism - a protective layer of isolation between the browser and the operating system - to take control of the system.
This vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-6558, was discovered by Vlad Stolyarov and Clément Lecigne, experts from Google's Threat Analysis Group.
iPhone users need to go to Settings -> General Settings -> Select Software Update -> Click Update Now and follow the instructions to update iOS 18.6.
Since the beginning of 2025, Apple has patched a total of 6 zero-day vulnerabilities, including 1 in January (CVE-2025-24085), 1 in February (CVE-2025-24200), 1 in March (CVE-2025-24201), 2 in April (CVE-2025-31200 and 31201), 1 in July (CVE-2025-6558).
While Apple devices have a reputation for security, they are not invulnerable. The popularity of the iPhone makes it a prime target for hackers. Users need to understand the importance of keeping their software up to date, especially as hackers become more sophisticated and target popular platforms like iOS and Chrome.
