Removing an ovarian cyst weighing nearly 2kg

A 35-year-old female patient has just had surgery to successfully remove a large ovarian cyst weighing nearly 2kg by doctors at Dakrong Regional Medical Center (Quang Tri).

On October 17, Dakrong Regional Medical Center announced that it had successfully operated on a left ovarian cyst measuring 17x14cm for patient HTN (35 years old, residing in Gia Gia village, Huong Hiep commune).

Previously, the patient was hospitalized with prolonged abdominal pain in the lower abdomen, accompanied by cloudy white vaginal discharge.

Through examination, the doctor noted a large, even, mobile tumor in the lower abdomen.

Ultrasound and test results showed that the left ovary had a well-defined, evenly-margined tumor with a septum and buds inside, accompanied by calcifications. After consultation, the team of specialists determined that this was a large ovarian cyst, at risk of twisting or rupturing, causing dangerous complications, so they decided to surgically remove the entire tumor.

The surgery was performed immediately afterwards by the team of doctors from the general surgery - obstetrics department. The surgery went smoothly, the tumor was safely removed, weighing about 1.8 kg, without much blood loss and the remaining ovary was preserved.

Currently, the patient is awake, the surgical wound is dry, in stable health, and is being monitored and cared for post-operatively.

According to the representative of Dakrong Regional Medical Center, if large ovarian cysts are not detected early, they can cause dangerous complications such as torsion, rupture or malignancy. Therefore, women of reproductive age should have regular check-ups for timely detection and treatment.
